I am intelligent, quiet, and kind.

My Self-Summary

Hi, I'm a fairly quiet guy, but I come out of my shell if given a chance. I'm now a former sailor, as I just got out of the Navy after 6 years. I'm starting my new career, and I can't wait to see where it takes me. I have just moved to Southern New Hampshire and I'm still getting familiar with the area. I will say that this area is much better than Southeast CT.

I'm hoping to make this area my permanent home. I've lived a lot of different places in the last 10 years. It's time to setting in somewhere.

Here's a little more background on my past. I grew up in beautiful Poland, Maine. We are famous for Poland Spring Water, and that's about it. I spent most of my life there until I was 19 and moved to Daytona Beach, FL to attend college. My major was Aerospace Engineering, however, I didn't focus on school, and only lasted a year. So I moved back to Maine.

That summer I went to the recruiter's office to see what the military had to offer. I found out about the nuclear power program, and after some heavy thinking, I signed on the dotted line, promising to give the Navy 6 years of my life.

I went to bootcamp in January of 2003. After bootcamp in icy northern Illinois, I flew down to Charleston, SC for a year of training. I had a great time there and saw some beautiful places.

After my year in SC, I moved to Saratoga Springs, NY for the last six months of training. The six months I spent in upstate NY were great. That area is absolutely beautiful. The six months I spent there may have been my favorite period of time in the service for me.

Following my training in NY, I moved to Groton, CT, and reported to a nuclear powered submarine. I spent over 4 years on the boat, and met some really good guys. But at the same time, it was the most frustrating and draining job I've ever had, and there was nothing the Navy could do for me to make me consider re-enlisting for more time. So, in January of 2009, I took my training and experience to the civilian world.

What I’m doing with my life

I just got out of the Navy on January 20th. I moved from CT to NH, and now I've started a job in the maintenance department at a power plant. I really enjoy it so far, we'll see how I feel in a year.

I’m really good at

I'm really good at math and science, and I have been for as long as I can remember. They have helped me in my career choices so far.

I love photography, but I don't really think I'm really good at it yet. Give me some time though, I'll get there. I'm always willing to show off my photos, so if you want to have a look, just let me know and I'll give you a link.

Oh yeah, I also love hockey. But I know I'm not I'm not really good at it. But it is a blast to get out on the ice, and it's completely addictive. I'm really hoping to find a hockey league that I can join in this area. I certainly can use the exercise.

The first things people usually notice about me

I've been told I have a baby face... I'm not sure how I feel about that, ha! Maybe that's why I might grow a goatee now that I'm out of the military.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Wheel of Time, Tom Clancy stuff, classic sci-fi, and others.

Movies: We watched a lot of movies on the boat when we were out to sea. It really helped to pass the time. Some of my favorites are:
Fight Club
Monty Python
Reservoir Dogs
Lord of the Rings
The Shawshank Redemption
Lucky Number Sleven
Pulp Fiction
Gladiator
Braveheart
and many many more.

Music: I love music, especially when it's live. Not a fan of rap/r&b though. These are some of my favorite bands:
Dave Matthews Band
Death Cab for Cutie
The Decemberists
U2
Jack Johnson
Ben Harper
Bob Marley
Radiohead
Pink Floyd
Bob Seger
Ben Folds Five

Food: Food is good.

This list not complete, but I don't feel like adding more right now. If you want to know more, let me know.

The six things I could never do without

In no particular order:
Friends
My Camera
My Mac computers
Music
Family
Pasta!

I spend a lot of time thinking about

I think about all kinds of stuff. I tend to be a little introverted, and I find myself over-thinking what I want to say sometimes. In recent years, I've gotten better at being a little more spontaneous and outgoing.

On a typical Friday night I am

Well, six months ago, it was a pretty good possibility that I would be working on the boat. But now, it looks like I'll have most Friday nights off, so who knows...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I once fainted while sitting at the control panel for the reactor of a nuclear submarine. I fell into the panel face first and got 5 stitches out of the deal.
