sardonic, encyclopedic, and broke
My self-summary Propose an edit
I'm really great at trivia games. I spent way too much time on
wikipedia. I believe nothing is worse than being bored. It is
perhaps the most dangerous thing of all. I'm desperate to escape
the mid-west. I dabble in many thing and consider myself an expert
at none, which really kills my job prospects. I was foolish enough
in school to study what I wanted (English - focus in Creative
Writing), rather than something that would get me a job. I used
to consider myself an anarchist and feminist, but I'm starting to
think that adhering to any theory is anti-human. More than anything
I want to hop trains and forget that economics exist.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I am unsure. I feel like too much of life is centered around
killing time. But time is limited. There's so little to do.
I write sometimes, need to do it much more so. Graduate school
seems like an eventual necessity if I'm to survive.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Diffusing explosives. Critiquing art, music, and writing.
Bullshitting. Catching things. Dealing with cops. Being a DD for my
drunk friends (though I'd rather be a drunk friend).
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Probably that I'm skinny, or that most the clothes I wear are
chosen solely to amuse me throughout the day. Small battles to win
the war and all.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Food - Vegan, so:
Lebanese, Vietnamese, avocado sushi, and smart
dogs.
Music - Anything original and heartfelt. I have a bullshit detector
that skyrockets when I hear terrible pop-music. Some of my
favorites are: Fugazi, Godspeed You Black
Emperor, Elliot Smith, Jawbox, The Weakerthans, The Cure, Sonic Youth. Underground Hip
hop like: Aesop
Rock, El-P,
Why? I'm a sucker
for the second wave of emo (Braid, Small Brown Bike, The Anniversary,
early Cursive and
Bright Eyes)
though I'm lax to admit it. Also have a soft spot for any of the
bands of my misguided teenage youth (Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Local
H, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Tori Amos, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix)and
really political punk rock (Propagandhi and Refused probably top that list). I
could go on for way too long though...
I love going to see local shows / small touring bands. Live music in a small
setting has a strange romance to it and I think it is one of the
few things that still really flutters my heartwings. It is just so
damn human.
Books - too many. All I do is read and think, which is probably my
downfall. I really dig: Thomas Pynchon, Tom Robbins,
Gabriel Garcia Marquez, David Foster Wallace, Kurt Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk,
etc.. Poetry is mostly beats like Ferlinghetti, modern American guys
I meet at small shows, or classic non-American stuff like Lorca or
Apollonaire.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
Dunno if such a thing exists.
Hypothetically (assuming necessities aren't included):
Something to use for listening to music
Hope (one may argue
this is a necessity, however, many people seem to function quite
well without it)
Wikipedia, I can
surf there all day, hurray, useless knowledge!
Books, though a library card works as well
My (little bit of) autonomy, I do not want to die old in a hospital
bed
My social / cultural activities (aka: small shows, art viewing outings, going to a
dance performance or seeing a great / classic film, etc)
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
How to not sound like a Goth kid (Speaking of which, before okcupid
I had no idea how many Goth's still existed! Where have you all
been hiding?! Let's hang out, I love The Cure!) and still be
serious.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Friday, Monday, what's the difference? I'd prefer to be out seeing
music or in one of my favorite small quiet bars with a few friends.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I have an unabashed hate of Ayn Rand that drastically limits my
dating choices among otherwise really intelligent girls.
Also that I fear I might be a nihilist.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You're as bored as I am.
You're compassionate about animals but not an eco-fascist.
You like to read, or watch Star Wars way too many times.
You're a complete nerd about music but make your best attempt to
avoid being a snob.
