In my free time I'm a huge fan of traveling and seeing new places, anything from new parts of the state to new parts of the world. I recently returned from living/working in Africa and am currently looking to plan a trip to South America. In the mean time I'm a huge fan of:
-- spending time at the Triple Rock.
-- using sarcasm freely.
-- riding my bike to the Farmers Market and then making a meal from whatever I can find
-- watching Bond movies (Connery has always been my favorite but Daniel Craig has been making a strong push for #1)
-- making beer. this has become a recent hobby of mine and one that I'm greatly enjoying.
-- playing hockey. the sport has been my favorite and it's one of the main reasons I actually enjoy winter!
-- trying new things. I will try anything once. I'm completely firm on this because I truly believe you have to take risks and experience something before you can judge it.
I'm not good at: redundancy, snowboarding (seriously, I'm terrible no matter how many times I've tried), growing plants, remembering to separate the darks/lights when doing laundry, dancing -- in public, the shower's a totally different situation.
Alice in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass. I love the Jabberwocky.
The Omnivore's Dilemma was a major inspiration for my grad school thesis and inspired a lot of my outlook on food.
The Time Traveler (and any H.G. Wells really) is one of my absolute favorites.
Oh, and 1984. one of the first novels that really got me into reading. It kind of scares me how applicable a lot of Orwell's ideas are today...
-- Movies: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Fight Club, Closer, Pulp Fiction, High Fidelity are the top 5.
Planet Earth gets an honorary mention because David Attenborough narrated documentaries are simply amazing.
-- Music: I listen primarily to bands such as Alkaline Trio, The Lawrence Arms, Rise Against, Jimmy Eat World, P.O.S., Dessa, Policia, broken Bells, Lana Del Rey, Camera Obscura, Neutral Milk Hotel, Ramones, The Head & The Heart, Frightened Rabbit, The Gaslight Anthem, Against Me!, The Boxer Rebellion, The xx, Thrice, Caroline Smith, The National, and Springsteen - 'Thunder Road' is especially awesome.
I also saw Slayer last year......and even though it's not really my type of music, they were spectacular.
-- Food: I will absolutely try anything once which has led to some amazing and regrettable moments (mostly abroad). around here the Red Stag Supperclub makes some delicious food but Pancho Villa's burritos and margaritas are mighty tasty. A few other favorites include: Grand Cafe, Blackbird Cafe, Corner Table, and Butcher & The Boar (good god does that have some amazing food).
I also cook a lot too. sushi is delicious.
top 5 lists.
and that too many of OK's questions are too black or white. apparently you can only think something is either totally good or totally evil.
Also, Alkaline Trio wrote a song about the first time I got drunk.
