My self-summary
I can't walk by a dog on the street without saying hello to it and if I could be any animal, I'd be a sea otter. What would you be?

I've been known to watch Top Chef while eating a bowl of fruit loops.

I believe you should treat other people how you want to be treated.

My friends are SUPER important to me.

I love to swim in lakes.

I want to leave out some of my quirks for you to learn about as you get to know me and have a feeling that the things we will like about each other won't be the things we write about on this profile.
What I’m doing with my life
I am currently launching a non-profit dedicated to empowering girls to be confident leaders and encouraging them to pursue fields where women are underrepresented, such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), business and politics. It's a lot of work it getting off the ground but I really enjoy it and am learning a lot!
I’m really good at
word games (crossword puzzles, scrabble, scattegories)

being silly.

being a friend. I do my best to shape my life so that I have time and energy to see my friends and be there for them when they need me.

looking at the positive side of things.

knowing the good places to have brunch and knowing how to strategically order to maximize the opportunity to eat both sweet and savory:) Also, knowing the best bakeries in the area and what they each are especially good at making. I take my duties seriously if anyone ever asks me for a brunch or bakery recommendation.
The first things people usually notice about me
my eyes-they are in the blue/green family but people tend to comment on not being exactly sure what color they are.

That I tend to be good at putting people at ease. I care a lot about people and do my best to make people feel comfortable.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: For years I preferred non-fiction (some favorites: Fiddler on The Subway, The Unlikely Disciple, Crashing Through, The Know-It-All) but recently I've been getting into fiction, which has surprised me but I'm enjoying it.

Movies: Similar to my affection for non-fiction books, I enjoy documentaries--I think there are so many amazing real life stories to learn about. Some favorite docs include: To Be and To Have, Spellbound, Mad Hot Ballroom, Tyson, Encounters at the End of World. Just watched a great documentary about the band Journey! There is definitely room for non-documentaries too.

Food: I love good ole fashioned comfort food, nothing like a great plate of spaghetti with some garlic bread and a salad. Like most 8-year-olds, I love pizza and ice cream. I love baked goods and good bakeries (as referenced above)! I also love visiting farmers markets and sampling the fresh fruit and vegetables.

Stand-Up: I'm really into stand-up comedy lately-have been to some fun shows in the past couple of years-seen Dave Chapelle, John Mulaney, Seth Meyers, Hannibal Buress. Was supposed to see Tig Notaro but unfortunately that was cancelled. Seeing Demetri Martin soon. Would love to see Bill Burr and Louis CK. Always looking for new recommendations on great comedians!

TV Series: I tend to stick to comedies or dramas that aren't too dark or serious. I know that in the last several years there have been so many spectacular dramatic series but I tend to avoid them because unfortunately I just tend to find them too upsetting. Current and past favorite shows include: How I Met Your Mother, Gilmore Girls, New Girl, Mindy Project, Project Runway, Girls, Veronica Mars, West Wing, Parks and Recreation.
The six things I could never do without
1. Brunch
2. Fresh Air/Natural light
3. Time with friends
4. A job I care about that feels like it's making some sort of positive difference in the world
5. Animals
6. Plenty of sleep
I spend a lot of time thinking about
food. The non-profit I'm launching. making a conscious effort to incorporate mindfulness, self-compassion, meditation and fitness into my daily life. I also spend a lot of time thinking about my friends and family-I try to keep quite up-to-date with the most important people in my life.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
there are a number of movies that are part of American culture that I am embarrassed to admit I haven't seen and fear being judged as a result (e.g. Star Wars).
