I am energetic, caring, and hard-working.

My Self-Summary

I'm an aspiring researcher and teacher working on my PhD in experimental psychology at OU. Before coming to Norman I taught English in Japan for two years. I have progressive values and a practical, positive outlook on life. I enjoy all sorts of people and activities: the more the better. I'm happiest when I'm busy, but since arriving at OU that claim has definitely been put to the test.

When I do take a break, I like to hang out with good people, volunteer, ride my bike, listen to music, read, watch movies or TV, exercise, clean and organize my apartment, and browse news and political blogs online. I've done quite a bit of social justice or environmental activism and would welcome any opportunities to get involved in Norman.

I'd like to meet a woman around my age who has lefty values and is generally happy with herself. If you consider yourself a feminist, humanist, atheist, or vegetarian, or if you have sympathies that lean in any of those directions, we'll probably get along.

What I’m doing with my life

Classes, research, and teaching.

I’m really good at

I'm friendly and I get along with most people.

Lately I've been working on remembering people's names when I first meet them--mostly by practicing and testing myself--and I've improved quite a bit.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm comfortable talking with just about anyone.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I read books when I'm in the mood and news or political commentary daily. Favorite categories include: scientific review and political/feminist nonfiction, revisionist fairy tales and fantasy fiction, classic literature, and occasional recommendations from friends.

TV and movies: I like comedies, dramas, documentaries, and the occasional action flic.

I love music. I listen to a lot of different genres, composers, and artists: classical, rock, hip hop, ragtime, bluegrass, and anything you can dance to. Lately I've been listening to Imogen Heap, Jurassic 5, Scott Joplin, and the Donnas.

I'm a vegetarian and I love any combination of vegetables and olive oil. I make pretty tasty stir fry, curry, and vegan spinach lasagna. I have frequent cravings for very dark chocolate.

The six things I could never do without

Audio player, bike, handkerchiefs, grapefruit, clean socks, and a water bottle.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Random things I've read or seen. My head is like a tape recorder with the record button activated at random. While I'm awake there is an almost constant presence of familiar songs, new ideas, or snippets of conversation that play over and over in the background of my mind. I hum, whistle, and sing a lot, often without being aware that I'm doing so.

On a typical Friday night I am

At home reading or out with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm on this site to date, but not to play games. I want to find someone who I connect with and spend some time getting to know her.

You should message me if

you think we might have something in common and you'd like to get to know me. Although I'll probably send you a message first.
