I am fun, open-minded, and thoughtful.
My Self-Summary
This always feels like an awkward out of body experience. Lets see,
I enjoy a variety of moments.
My favorite moments may include the following:
*laughing till my abs hurt,
*having a bite of food that makes me shake my head in amazement,
*watching someone shake their head in enjoyment after they take a
bite of something I've cooked,
*touching hands with someone special for the first time,
*sharing a drink with friends,
*listening to beautiful songs on repeat (after recently coming out
as a song repeater to my friends, well we all came out together on
that one, I remembered that when I was twelve I use to listen to an
Enya cd on repeat on my disc man to fall asleep and I didn't know
yet that I was a queer)
*having a student say "that joke was stoooopid" then seeing them
tell the joke to a group of friends in the yard,
*generally any time spent outside is enjoyable for me.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently I'm trying to keep a fair balance between work and fun, I
have tended to get to sucked into work so I'm working on
that.
I signed up for a dance class but can't look at myself in the giant
mirror during our routine no matter how much I love my tap
shoes.
I definitely spend time trying to make history cool and relevant
for my students.
I just pulled out my old harmonica and it was like getting back
with an old friend.
I'm in a small book club for the first time and we're reading James
Baldwin to start.
I like to go hiking and bike riding around the city.
Finding new spots to eat and revisiting old favorites.
I’m really good at
Enjoying peoples company, listening, sharing good music,
celebrating tasty delights, helping people love Los Angeles, having
various levels of friendships.
The first things people usually notice about me
I guess I usually get compliments on my eyes - they're hazel so
occasionally look yellow if I'm wearing lite colors.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Parable of the Sower, Century of the Wind, Me Talk Pretty
One Day, Iron Cages, currently reading The Lady in the Lake by
Robert Chandler (a fun private investigation book set in LA during
the 40's) and James Baldwin Notes of a Native Son, and non-fiction
books about Los Angeles, Economics, Education etc.
Movies: Y Tu Mama Tambien, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Rushmore,
Life in Debt, Bastards of the Party, Persepolis, Stranger Than
Fiction, Pans Labyrinth, Best in Show, many more but that's a taste
of my taste in movies.
Music: so much good stuff hard to list..
Emiliana Torrini, Devendra Banhart, Dolly Parton, Jazz Liberators,
Citizen Radio, De La Soul, Arcade Fire, Johnny Cash, George
Michael, Nouvelle Vague, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros,
Fleet Foxes, Nina Simone, Jill Scott, Ray LaMontagne, Hugh
Masekala, Paul Simon, KCRW, mixes from friends and live music at
the Hollywood Bowl.
Songs on repeat in the last months: House of Cards-Radiohead,
Birds- Emiliana Torrini, When you Love Somebody- Fruit Bats, Little
Lovin- Lissie.
Food: hmm more a savory tooth than a sweet but enjoy almost
everything, I have to say I haven't had a great experience with
Papaya but other than that I am open to almost anything.
The six things I could never do without
food/cooking
friends
music
open minds
knowledge
laughter
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How the world could be different, how to be a better teacher,
places in LA and in the world that I want to visit/explore more and
what I'm going to eat later.
On a typical Friday night I am
Usually having dinner and/or drinks with the crew or watching
netflix movies.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
hmm I guess that I resisted the Office for a long time but recently
watched all of them and find myself laughing out loud by myself
when its on.
You should message me if
You are open-minded and nice. If you're interested in exploring
this city from downtown, to the mountains out to the beach.
