I am relaxed, open-minded, and thoughtful.

My Self-Summary

I enjoy laughing, food (both preparing and eating), good music, discussion/conversation/storytelling, hiking and simply learning about new things. I teach high school social studies and love it. I like discussing and thinking about history, politics, gender/queer/race/education theory and current events in-general. I get a long with most people as long as they aren't a-holes (this can mean a variety of things).

What I’m doing with my life

Teaching and learning how to be innovative and effective with that. I make sure to have time for hiking, traveling, enjoying time with old and new friends, dancing occasionally and trying out new hobbies.

I’m really good at

Cooking, having a good time almost anywhere, enjoying people's company and being outside either hiking, riding my bike or playing around at a park.

The first things people usually notice about me

Depends on where I am and who I'm with. Sometimes my eyes, sometimes my humor, sometimes my middle child powers of perceiving what's going on with people.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Parable of the Sower, Century of the Wind, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Iron Cages, currently reading Caucasia and reading a few books on Los Angeles history/geography - trying to mix fiction with non-fiction but it's hard sometimes.

Movies: Y Tu Mama Tambien, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Rushmore, Life in Debt, Bastards of the Party, Persepolis, Stranger Than Fiction, Pans Labyrinth, Best in Show, Dead Man Walking, many more but that's a taste of my taste in movies.

Music: so much good stuff hard to list.. Erykah Badu, Dolly Parton, Fugees, Emiliana Torrini, Devendra Banhart, De La Soul, Arcade Fire, Johnny Cash, George Michael, TV on the Radio, Nina Simone, Jill Scott, Ray LaMontagne, Hugh Masekala, Paul Simon, KCRW, mixes from friends and live music at the Hollywood Bowl.

Food: hmm more a savory tooth than a sweet but enjoy almost everything, I have to say I haven't had a great experience with Papaya but other than that I am open to almost anything.

The six things I could never do without

food/cooking
friends
music
open minds
knowledge
laughter

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How the world could be different...

On a typical Friday night I am

Depends on how the week went, I guess having dinner or drinks with friends or laying low watching a movie.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Yikes...I'm in season three of Battlestar Galactica.

You should message me if

You are open-minded and nice.
