I have a rich and full life, but I would like to have a relationship with an exceptionally smart, caring man with similar values. My ideal partner is between 38 and 52, lives in Portland (I was with an archeologist for ten years and don't want another long distance relationship), and lives an active lifestyle. I think sex is great and fun and wonderful, but I want an emotional and intellectual connection first. I am not as concerned about degrees as I am about a lifelong passion for learning. I believe that trust is a critical element in a relationship, and find jealousy unattractive. I am allergic to cigarette smoke.
Whew. For the .2 percent of you that are left, read on . . .
I asked some friends to describe me, to help me start this, and they responded with works like “smart, loving, caring, trustworthy, supportive, loyal, calm, and friendly”. Great, I sound like Lassie with a dry nose.
I grew up in Portland and love the city, but also love to travel and spend time wandering around in old cities looking at the art andarchitecture. I like ethnic food and new experiences.
I am attractive, and look a lot more conservative than I really am. I’m 5’4, with reddish-blond hair, hazel eyes, Irish skin, a big bust, and famine resistant hips.
I bicycle, hash, swim, kayak, scuba dive and paraglide. I’m an adrenaline junkie and a hedonist. At the same time I have enough discipline to run a business and I remain calm in a crisis.
I am a moral, but not religious person. I believe that “the only true sin lies in hurting another person unnecessarily.” I have a curiosity about various religions, but have developed a personally satisfactory philosophy/world view and am not a seeker.
I am not exactly an extrovert, I need too much alone time to qualify for that, but I am rejuvenated by spending time with friends and family. I love to cook large meals for friends and talk, play games or dance into the wee hours.
My favorite spices are ginger, cumin, coriander, fresh basil and saffron. I like Pinot Noir, dry hard cider and cocktails. I live in the microbrew-capitol-of-the-universe and I don't like beer. I could probably use a 12-step program to deal with my coffee consumption.
My sense of humor is dark, dry, and irreverent, with a highly developed sense of the absurd. I like black comedies and "B" science fiction movies (I like to criticize the science). I don't have commercial or cable TV reception, but I do stream media off the net to my television. I spend a fair amount of time with OPB, and love “This American Life." I have a longstanding unrequited crush on Ira Glass. Sigh. I'm rather fond of Dan Savage as well. Double sigh.
I read incessantly. I am not an intellectual per se, but the life of the mind is important to me. I also enjoy the sweet ache of well used muscles, whether it is sport, gardening, or home improvement.
Do I contradict myself?
Very well, then I contradict myself,
I am large, I contain multitudes.
