My self-summary
I'm a long-haul trucker, which means I'm usually gone during the week and some of the weekends, too. Generally I get home every seven to ten days, stay for two or three, and then head back out on the road for another week or so. And that's fine by me. I like the highway life, but getting back home on more or less a weekly basis helps me maintain some semblance of a normal life here in Atlanta.

I've been a skateboarder since I was twelve, and that's also about the time I first picked up a guitar. These days I play bluegrass and fiddle tunes on the guitar, mostly by myself in the truck.
I’m really good at
Navigation.

I like to think I can shoot a decent photo.
The first things people usually notice about me
My big... truck? How would I know? I notice lots of things about other people that I don't necessarily tell them...

My glasses, probably.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read more magazine and web articles than anything else, and finding time to read all those that interest me is a challenge I often lose. Which leaves little time for books. However, I'll read anything written by Annie Dillard. The ways she puts words together sometimes takes away all of mine. Mary Oliver has the same effect. Kenneth Patchen, Howard Zinn, and Mark Twain hush me in other ways.

I like intelligent, well-crafted movies, but that doesn't mean I only watch serious art films. Just because a film is artsy doesn't mean that it's intelligent; nor does serious subject matter guarantee quality production. I guess it's like most things: if you're only going to do something half-assed, don't expect me to be interested.

In music, I want to listen to something with a good beat and a clear melody, and in a song the music is more important to me than the lyrics. A few weeks ago I was driving through Queens, New York listening to a radio program on which the merits of Stairway to Heaven were debated. To me, Stairway is a beautifully crafted song; who cares if the words make any sense? There's emotion and meaning-power, even-in the notes themselves. But I tend to lean toward instrumentals, and most of the time I want to hear something I can dance to. Even though I don't really dance. Or like modern dance music. Music should stir something inside you, whether it's just a toe tap or a fond memory; or maybe a booty shake or a tear in your eye. I know it moves me.

Older country seems to be appropriate truck driving music.

It's surprisingly difficult to find a really good burrito.
The six things I could never do without
This ol' guitar.
This damn iPhone.
That skateboard behind my seat.
Sweet tea.
Clean socks.
Semicolons.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The cosmos.
Improvising on that ol' guitar.
Courtesy.
Reading between the lines when I listen to the news.
Professionalism.
Where the hell I'm going to park for the night.
How to be a grown-up without actually growing up.
How the hell I'm going to back this trailer into the spot in which the customer wants to unload it.
Where and how to hide the rent this month. That's a fun (for me, at least) little game I like to play with the landlord...
On a typical Friday night I am
Most likely driving.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've been watering down my sweet tea lately. It almost feels like a sin.
