My self-summary
I'm really good at jaywalking.

My father always told me not to make eye contact with strangers. So, you know, I am constantly doing that.

When I was eight, I broke my left arm playing a game I liked to call "How long can I ride this bike in a straight line with my eyes closed?" With age has come wisdom, but the sense of adventure remains.

(Also, it was worth it. I got my first Walkman and a cassette tape of Boyz II Men's Cooleyhighharmony.)
What I’m doing with my life
For love: Avoiding being distracted by shiny new ideas before I finish the ones I'm currently writing.

For food and shelter: I wear many hats for a couple of the city's most awesome rock venues. Maybe you get our email blast every Tuesday.

For everything: Getting better at being human.

I'm doing my first ever 10-day silent Vipassana meditation retreat in late July, so I'm gearing up for that and working at deepening my practice.
I’m really good at
Sneezing.
Memorizing poems (and reciting them with alacrity.)
Officiating weddings. (Three happy couples can vouch for this.)
Making mix CD's.
Listening.
Accents.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm not spontaneously combusting.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Sauce is my favorite food.

I'm always reading. Nabokov, Tom Robbins, Bukowski, e.e. cummings, Toni Morrison, Cormac McCarthy, Steven Erikson, Faulkner, Margaret Atwood, Denis Johnson, Murakami, an abiding love of science fiction, and much more.

Right now I'm reading a book about Aldous Huxley's years in Los Angeles, as well as a book by anthropologist Wade Davis about indigenous knowledge vanishing as some really amazing human tribes come closer to going extinct.

I love listening to Bill Callahan, Grimes, David Bowie, The Beatles and Boards of Canada. I delight in Nicolas Jaar and sigh over Sharon Van Etten. I think Spiritualized's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is a perfect album. I enjoy music best when it's spinning on a turntable or being played live.

I don't watch much at home, but I love going to the movies. Especially a good midnight showing. A Clockwork Orange is coming up...
The six things I could never do without
Words.
Avocados.
My whiskered roommate.
A sense of wonder.
Breakfast.
Silence.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Ceiling fans. Cuddling. How trees look like brains. The things I haven't finished writing. The things I haven't started writing. People in my life who make my heart swell. Awful stuff going on in the world and how much happier people could be. Ayahuasca and other plant medicines. Wanderlust.
On a typical Friday night I am
Counting my lucky stars. Storming the Bastille of the Universe. You know, the usual.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I am downright terrible at tying my shoelaces. Seriously - they constantly come undone. Do you have any idea what it feels like to be thirty years old and googling "how to properly tie your shoes"?
I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 27–45
  • Near me
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
Hi! You made it to the bottom! I do hope you write a message. I love meeting creative human beings who are perpetually dazzled with wonder at the strange fact of being alive.

I enjoy the company of both women and men, but when you get right down to it, I am looking for a long term partnership with a strong, intelligent, independent woman who values her alone time as much as I do mine. I know you're out there.
