I was born in a small town in Western Finland, moved to Helsinki to
study architecture and have found my home here. I'm 23 years old.
Quite shy and reserved, except around people I know. I love good
films, music and visual arts. I also go to
gym and like it a lot. I don't drink coffee
(everyone drinks it here in Finland!) but I love tea.
Dr. Snuggles was my
childhood hero.
I'm not very good at describing myself, so you may want to take a
look at what my closest friends think of me:
draw the curtain
I'm a third year student of
architecture in the Helsinki
University of Technology. Right now I'm taking time off my studies
to work, save up money for travelling and trying to figure out my
future.
I plan to
travel a
good deal before graduation, since I have been to so few places and
there are so many places I just need to visit. I'm not going to die
before having been to Kyoto, Tokyo, New York, and London and having
seen the zen gardens and spiky Manhattan skyline and the neon
jungles. I've also been thinking about exchange studies, but I'm
not sure of that yet.
I'm good at gathering information about things I'm interested in -
if something catches my interest, I usually begin with a wikipedia
and google spree, progressing to a library visit and so on. I think
I'm also pretty good at
drawing and
writing. I like to analyze
films,
paintings,
poems,
architecture; pretty much all forms
of art and I like to think I have some talent in that.
Hmm. Well, I'm short (170cm or 5'7"). Apart from that, I don't
know.
(A): I don't read that much, but it is not that I wouldn't like
reading, it's just that I don't seem to have time and energy, so my
reading happens mostly during holidays and occasionally weekends. I
feel like standing on the shore of a deep, fascinating ocean, and
I've only got my toes dipped.
The only classic author I've read is
Dostoevsky, whom I adore.
Crime and
Punishment is such a deep and intense masterpiece.
Recently I've been digging the sci-fi classics, and found
Ursula K. Le
Guin a brilliant writer. I also like
Philip K. Dick, though I've
only read a couple of his books.
Tolkien's
Lord of the Rings has a
special place in my heart since I first read it when I was eleven
and it made a huge impression. I used to collect plants as a child
(for real!) and the long depictions of different kinds of trees,
herbs and flowers made it feel like Mr. Tolkien had written the
book just for me, which was a wonderful feeling. I love
Douglas Adams'
The
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with its wonderfully bubbling
and absurd humour and verbal acrobatics.
(B): I'm a film enthusiast. I have quite a broad taste, but I'm
especially fond of visual directors and films. At the moment my
favorite directors are
Tarkovsky,
Malick and
Aronofsky. Though I'm passionate about
film there are many many classics and other more or less Important
Films I haven't seen since I tend to be quite picky and also my
viewing habits are quite irregular. I also take delight of that
fact, because now I know there's always some great movie just
waiting to be watched.
These I love:
Stalker.
Pulp Fiction.
Diary of a Country
Priest.
Vertigo.
Monty Python, both the Flying
Circus and the movies.
The Matrix.
The New World.
Requiem for a Dream.
Jackie Brown.
Amlie.
Rashomon.
City of God.
Donnie Darko.
Garden State.
Blade Runner.
Pi.
Apocalypse Now.
Se7en.
American Beauty.
Fight Club.
25th Hour.
Lost in
Translation.
Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
The Constant Gardener. And
many, many more.
(C): I have a Last.fm account that gives a good idea of my music
taste:
http://www.last.fm/user/FVM/
I love
Sigur
Rs,
mm,
Bjrk,
Radiohead,
Massive
Attack,
Mew,
Yann Tiersen,
Nouvelle
Vague,
Godspeed You! Black
Emperor,
Magyar Posse... I lean to
post-rock and
trip-hop and generally
indie type of music,
but I also listen to classical, mostly
Vivaldi and
Sibelius, and minimalists like
Arvo Pärt
and
Henryk
Gorecki.
(D): I love Chinese, Indian / Nepalese (for some reason we have
tons of Nepalese restaurants in Helsinki), Japanese food. Good
sushi is just absolutely heavenly experience. Also some Finnish
things, like gravlax on dark rye bread. Beer and wine are my choice
for drinks, I always like to test new stuff.
All kinds of things. Unfinished school projects. New movies.
Architecture. Interesting exhibitions. Grocery shopping. Politics.
Japanese gardens. Life, the Universe and Everything.
Often I'm just sitting in front of my computer, sometimes reading
or watching a movie. I might be having a good time with friends,
either just chilling at their homes or out partying. I rarely go to
bars or clubs though.
you find me interesting. Go ahead.
