I am contemplative, insightful, and incorrigible.

My Self-Summary

I've learned that most people have never met anyone like me. Stereotypes just don't apply to me as well as they do to most people.

I am all about always thinking for yourself, even if the conclusions that you reach aren't compatable with conventional thinking or the law. Intelligence is really important for me - I've never gotten along well with people who can't think critically.

Motorcycling is my everyday passion. I haven't owned a car in years, but I have ridden everything from superbikes to supermotos, and all the supers in between.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently taking a year off from college between getting my bachelor's degree and starting medical school.

I’m really good at

Solving problems. I always enjoy comming up with novel solutions to problems.

The first things people usually notice about me

Completely different things! It's not uncommon for two people that I meet at the same event to have two very different ideas about what I am. In fact, while trying to think of examples in order to come up with something to answer this question, I realized that for every impression that one person had, another person has always had the exact opposite.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Most of my reading is non-fiction. Only a few fiction works have ever stood out to me. Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest astutely pictured the group dynamics of the mental hospital from a divergent-yet-logical point of view. Heinlein’s Starship Troopers was notable for how it gave a unique vision of future government. Its witty take on a republic based on meritocracy, social justice, and future technology (all the things that made the book intellectually stimulating) were unfortunately completely ignored when it was made into a Hollywood film.

Likewise, I’ve only found a few movies worth watching. The Godfather Part 1, Apocalypse Now, and A Beautiful Mind all had interesting plots and unique cinematography.

As for music, I like complex harmonies, so most of my favorite bands are either progressive rock or classic rock. The mid-90s had some good music as well, with bands like Gravity Kills and Matchbox 20.

My taste in food follows one rule – the worse it is for you, the more I probably like it. Regardless, my relatives that ate a similar heart attack-inducing diet lived into their 90s.

edit: Wow, reading that really makes me sound pretentious, doesn't it? But that's just the effects of years of academic writing; I talk considerably lower-brow!

The six things I could never do without

1. A computer - this takes the place of just about every electronic device.
2. A motorcycle - I'm a two-wheel addict!
3. A toolbox - I'll try to fix anything.
4. A camera - I like to catch everything.
5. Steak - The perfect food!
6. My Siamese cat, who thinks he's a dog.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Social issues, science, and racing - probably in that order.

On a typical Friday night I am

My Friday nights used to be spent at the Hawaii Raceway Park drag strip. Since it closed, I haven't had "typical" Friday nights!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Admitting something here automatically prevents it from being private, doesn’t it? Things that people hold private are held privately for a reason!

You should message me if

You should message me if you’re the sort of person who enjoys taking the initiative to meet new people.
