My self-summary
All work and no play makes me a dull boy... and also makes for a catchy intro to a good song. Anywho, not quite sure how to summarize myself. I am me. If you've read Dostoevsky's "Notes from Underground", I am a "light" version of the underground man. Think "underground man" meets "Drew Carey" :-p. Probably not a good way to introduce myself, but why waste either of our time? A colleague once described me as having "the education of a 50 year old, mouth of a sailor, and tact filter of a 2 year old". I think that is a fairly accurate sum-up.

I do my best to always do the best thing/be a good (moral) person. I come off as not really caring about much, yet get riled up over shit. I'm quite sarcastic and generally have a very quick wit. I tend to give people a hard time, but don't really mean most of what I say. If you're really sensitive, we will not get along. I also tend to give myself a hard time too, ‘cause I figure its only fair. If you can't laugh at yourself, no laughing at any one else, ya know. I like people who I can rip on and they'll only give it back. I’m not a fan of everyone being all buddy buddy and whatnot…I try to have a reason for everything I do, and try to find ones in others. When I can't, I get annoyed quite easily. I hold myself to a high standard, and others as well. I do my best to not sound arrogant in any way shape or form, so therefore am VERY self-depricating. I try my best to stay grounded and realistic, and am quite pessimistic, border line cynical even. I guess I'm quite naive with people, maybe a little too serious for my own good. I'm not good in social situations, thus I generally avoid them. Not a fan of being around people too much since they annoy me, so it mostly works out. Would like to think I have a good bit of common sense. If you really want a glimpse into my mind, read my journal. I have a rambling chronicle of my college thought processes in it spanning a few entries.

I work in hockey, and have little time for much else. Its my life. I get ornery in the off-season. I need hockey to be happy. My average work week consists of 5 days of practice (10-12 hour days) and 2 games (18+ hours days), not to mention travel, and those nice little 3 game weeks. In what little free time I do get, I'm mostly sitting around watching TV, wasting time online, or listening to music. I'm quite the homebody, not a big fan of going out to do much. Maybe the occasional meal, but not one to just go to a bar or something like that, can’t stand the bar scene. Going to movies is fun too, beyond the annoying humanity aspect of it...

I am sarcastic, laid back, and going to hell.

What I’m doing with my life
Short term: 3rd year pro, 2nd organization. Been given a 2nd chance at this, CANNOT fuck this up...

Long term: Trying to make a go of it becoming an equipment manager in hockey. Starting my 2nd pro season, 12th season overall. I have a degree in psychology which affords me the freedom to try my hand at this. I love hockey, and if I can't make it happen, at least I tried. This way 5 or 10 years down the line I'm not thinking "I wonder what it would've been like..." If you want a better idea, check out my journal post entitled "excerpt".

I’m really good at
Um...freecell (had a streak of 247 straight wins)...bejeweled blitz (1,093,850 is my highest thus far) I don’t know. Never really felt comfortable answering questions like this, as I dislike bragging or anything that sounds remotely like it. I don’t really think I’m good at anything. Maybe being a negative asshole? Pushing people's buttons? I seem to have a knack for those things.

The first things people usually notice about me
Mentally: That I'm going to hell. I think I'm basically too honest...or heartless...or both. My favorite kind of joke is the kind that you more or less hate yourself for laughing at. Think south park's humor. I also thoroughly enjoy the irony in life.

Physically: I’d guess it’d be my size, cause I'm huge. 6'1", 350lbs or so. By and large I don't give a damn about my appearence... I'm here, showered, and dressed...what more do ya need?

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I don't read as much as I'd like to, but my favorite books include Ken Dryden's "The Game", “Notes from Underground”, “At Last There is Nothing Left to Say”, “1984”, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”, “War of the Worlds”, "The Far Side" and “The Bunny Suicides” (yes, I am aware the last two are comics, bite me). Fyodor Dostoevsky, Jules Verne, Gary Larson, and Langston Hughes are a few of my favorite authors. I’ve been instructed by numerous reliable sources that I should add Hemingway to their ranks as my writing style/personality match his closely...

As far as movies, I can't stand chick flicks, horror movies are usually too corny (or I'm just a coward), and romantic comedies suck. I spend a lot of time thinking about
Holy shit…where to start? Hockey, my future in it, my future in general, money (or my lack thereof), my life, work, what I need to do for work, ideas for stories/movies that I know will go unwritten, throwing out social norms all together and just winging life, females, trying my hand at making movies, taking over the world, starting a theatre/restaraunt for simultaneous dinner & movies, going bamboo somewhere… Way too much stuff.

Took a course in meditation in the hopes of gaining a better appreciation for the here/now, but like my prof said “our minds are like a drunk monkey, we can’t control them, merely sit back and observe”. That made a lot of sense to me. I tend to over analyze most things, so...

On a typical Friday night I am
August-April/June=At the rink working, or traveling with the team in preparation for a game... In the unlikely event there isn't a game, I’d be home watching TV, wasting time online, eating, or maybe being adventurous and going to eat or maybe goin to a movie at the theatre. If I do go to a bar, its probably because friends pressured me into it... I prefer small, uncrowded bars where you can sit down with a small group of people and actually hold a conversation (or watch the hockeygame that WILL be on, damnit). Preferably somewhere with good bar food. Never saw the point in getting drunk, so...

Off-season=Doing jack shit. Dinner/movies/hanging out & waxing philosophical are always fun...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm not sure, I don’t really have any secrets:
--I can’t swim
--I hate needles
--I really want to visit Iceland, but not really sure why.
--Along those lines, I want to see the Aurora Borealis
--And Antarctica, too
--Thanks to food network, I wish I could cook.
--Since seeing one during a late night paper-writing session in college, I've romanticized about driving a street sweeper...
--I'm increasingly dreaming of saying fuck it and going bamboo somewhere.
--I like the idea of creating a theatre/restaraunt where you can order food while watchin a movie. Don't think it'd work well, we'll see.
--Guilty pleasure=Courage the Cowardly Dog
--Dream Girl= Rory from Gilmore Girls + Claudia from Warehouse 13
