I've read many books. While I'm a bit reticent to give my
favorites, I'll give a quick list of the books currently in my
rotation: Project Orion, Diamond Age, Thinking, Fast and Slow,
Steve Jobs, Ready Player One and A Game of Thrones. I think I've
read everything Isaac Asimov has ever written. Heinlein, Clarke and
H.G. Wells are also ranked highly. Candide was probably my favorite
book around the age of 17. Kurt Vonnegut and Douglas Adams works
are revisited pretty regularly. Of course I was subjected to the
reading lists of high school and college, authors too varied to
name. Surprisingly, I enjoyed nearly all of them. From the
ultra-dry Dickens and Hardy to the fast paced fun of Orwell, Huxley
and Bradbury. Caveat: Victor Hugo, just no thank you.
As far as movies go, I like to be surprised. I enjoyed The Usual
Suspects and Cabin in the Woods for that reason. Grosse Pointe
Blank, Safety Not Guaranteed, Boondock Saints, The Shawshank
Redemption and Fight Club are all pretty good stuff. I generally
dislike "superhero" movies unless they involve a regular person
doing something great (Batman, Iron Man). I will watch and
(usually) enjoy almost any movie.
TV: I enjoy 30 Rock (sigh), Mad Men, Homeland, Downton Abbey, The
West Wing (double sigh), House of Cards and Battlestar Galactica.
Also, a few others.
Music: Its probably easier to list what I don't like. Country,
Metal and smooth jazz. Spoon, White Stripes, Pixies, James,
Nirvana, Billy Joel and James Blunt are some of my favorites I
suppose. Occasionally, I listen to Kanye to just get a sense of
what's "cool."
Food: Mexican food. It would be the one type of food I would take
with me to a deserted island. Sashimi, the more Salmon, the better.
Also, I love to cook. The kitchen is my R&D lab.
I am a champion taco creator.
