Reading is the first thing I remember caring about that wasn't a person or didn't live in the creek behind our house.
A few favorites: For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Silmarilion (specifically, the creation story, if we're gonna nerd out about it), Cryptonomicon, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice, Enders Game.
I once read Cicero's Letters while sitting waist-deep in the Mediterranean which weird as it may sound was fucking awesome. (I have a mild obsession with the late roman republic.) Lately, for a new project, I've been reading everything Mark Twain wrote.
Movies:
Fifth Element, Gattica, The Hunt for Red October, The Princess Bride, Spy Game, Love Actually, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the Empire Strikes Back, the Sandlot.
This year's movies: Silver Linings Playbook (see it). The Intouchables was funny to tears. All three Dark Knight movies back-to-back; try it.
Music:
Most recent download was Max Richter's recomposition of Vivaldi's Four Seasons is playing; its beautiful.
Last song on Spotify was by Kinnie the Explorer. Ran this morning to The Black Keys. There's currently a "no dubstep" rule in effect. I'm up for dancing to about anything; just pass me your favorite bourbon first?
2. The blue zip up hoody I'm wearing right now.
3. Cookies.
4. My brother.
5. Trees.
6. Enthusiasm.
Honorable mentions: The minor key. Laughing with a pretty, intelligent woman. A comfortable sofa. Pizza, even the national chain kind. Four seasons. Things designed by Stanford White or Frederick Olmstead. Breakfast burritos. Amazon Prime. Fresh squeezed orange juice.
Some of the rest of the time:
What hot sauce should be on what I'm about to eat. Behavior change and decision making. The Maillard Reaction and how it creates deliciousness. Whether that girl is single. Evaluating whether this is too close to the platform edge.
Is there data on that? Locating where in my house I will install a pull up bar and how my landlord will react. Whether its even possible to more perfectly load this dishwasher. What kind of day the people in this elevator car are having. What's the time signature of this song? Proper usage of the semi-colon; its my favorite mark of punctuation.
Whether I can climb this tree. Not forgetting to order more of that delicious beef jerky from that place in Oklahoma. Whether the OKCupid robot is really any good at figuring out a person's personality. Should I really pick up this book sitting in this box on the street...I haven't read the last one yet.
