I am a joker, a smoker, and a midnight toker...
My Self-Summary
Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah
Some call me the gangster of love
Some people call me maurice
Cause I speak of the pompitous of love
About you:
You're the cutest thing
That I ever did see
I really love your peaches
Want to shake your tree
Lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey, lovey-dovey all the time
Ooo-eee baby, Ill sure show you a good time
Errrrr. Ok, enough with Steve Miller. Although you've got to love a
lyricist who can rhyme 'Abracadabra' with 'reach out and
grab-ya'...
I'm a Brit who is pretty new to Atlanta- I've been here about 6
months now. I'm loving it in the US and Atlanta- having a great
time and meeting loads of cool people. But you can never have too
many friends right?
I'm so new to America that I spot stuff everyday that is different
from home and therefore new and interesting. I even noticed the
other day that the roadkill here is different- I'm sure I saw a
skunk this week... Other observations for this week include a
fabulously named Pet Grooming Centre called 'You Dirty Dog' and a
street called Beaver Ruin Road which you definitely couldn't get
away with in the UK.
So I'm on here to make some cool, funny and gorgeous (!) friends
who can show me around the city and make me laugh so much that I
don't miss home at all.
The most important thing to me is my friends. Don't get me wrong, I
like my alone time and choose to live on my own, but my favourite
thing is chatting and laughing. It could be anything from a serious
conversation about current affairs to competitive anecdotes about
who is the weirdest person you've ever seen on a bus. Of course,
these conversations frequently degenerate (especially when fuelled
by alcohol) into stupidity, hilarity and
filth...
What I’m doing with my life
I'm lucky that I love my job. I've just transferred with my company
from London to Atlanta and I'm really excited about living and
testing myself in another country. My work means that I spend a lot
of my time in schools- I help them to understand and decide on how
educational technology, software and digital classrooms can help
them to motivate kids and aise standards. (Ok, so really I'm in
sales, but I do genuinely believe that my work makes a [very] small
difference and that's a good thing.)
I’m really good at
I'm really good at talking about stuff and less good at actually
doing it. That doesn't mean I'm not passionate about everything I
try though. I'm a bit of a jack of all trades and master of none. I
love
music and have
sung and played guitar in several bands. I can also play piano,
sax, drums but none with any real skill- and certainly nothing like
as well as I wish I could. These days I settle for
karaoke and
Guitar hero although the right band
could bring me out of retirement.
I just discovered
Metalsome Mondays (and Fridays
and Saturdays) at the 10 High. Absolutely awesome...
I love
sports and
play soccer (proper football...), cricket, tennis,
pool and go running (less frequently
than I should.) Again, I'm a grafter rather than an natural talent.
I play in a couple of pick-up games and for a team in the ADSL.
Also played in my first ever co-ed soccer game recentgly which was
an experience.
The first things people usually notice about me
At the moment the first thing people notice about me is my accent.
I only need to sit in a bar for a couple of minutes before somebody
wants to talk to me. This is not always a good thing...
After that? My shiny head perhaps?
By the time they've known me for more than about 30 minutes they
will realise that I talk too much, but am also a good listener and
enthusiastic conversationalist.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I love all of the above. Just a few of my favourites:
Books- The Ground Beneath Her Feet and Midnight's Children by
Salman
Rushdie. Anything by John Irvine. I'm currently into stuff
about India and the middle east so White Tiger by Aravind Adiga and
The Kite runner and A Thousand Suns by Khaled Hosseini.
Music- Almost anything with guitars from The Rolling Stones to the
Beastie Boys. Especially Paul Weller,
The Who,
The Black Crowes. I also try
to keep up with and go to see new bands I've never heard of. I've
just been to see shows in Atlanta by BB King and
Elbow.
Movies- my movie taste is less impressive. I love comedy and coming
of age movies. Growing up I loved Stand By Me and anything with
Michael J Fox. Now I love
Dazed and Confused and Grosse
Pointe Blank and for simple laughs any
Will Ferrell or Seth Rogan
movie.
Food is easy. Steak.
The six things I could never do without
Friends (and family)
Music
Football (soccer)
Beer
Sex
Travelling.
(I can't believe I nearly put computers in here instead of sex.
Wow. I don't know myself sometimes...)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I spend a lot of time thinking about trivial rubbish. I have a mind
full of useless information, jokes and
anecdotes. I can remember a million
songs from the 80s and 90s just by hearing the first 10 seconds or
a snatch of lyrics.
I do think about more serious stuff but I try not to do it before
bed or I won't get to sleep... When I want to go to sleep I still
think about scoring the winnning goal in the
FA Cup at Wembley.
At the moment I'm thinking that this profile takes an extremely
long time to complete.
On a typical Friday night I am
In the pub. I could be at a gig, a comedy show, the movies, a nice
restaurant or just round at someone's house, but I hope that I'm
making the most of it. I love my job but live for the weekends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I once got arrested for something really embarrassing. This was
made worse by the fact that my Dad is a Minister.
You should message me if
you want to go out and have a good time. That's pretty simple I
guess. I love meeting new people, I'm confident and comfortable in
new situations and can talk passionately (although not always well
informed...) on almost any subject.
If you like going to see music, playing pool, eating good food and
drinking beer then get in touch.
Oh yeah- nearly forgot. Bonus points if you can define 'pompitous'
for me. I've never known what it means I'm sure your definitions
would be more interesting than looking it up on the internet.
