My self-summary
I was born to parents who had me late in life, in their forties. Dad grew up on a farm in Canada, and Mom on a farm in Ohio. Talking about myself is something I've been trained from birth NOT to do, in the finest traditions of Midwestern Stoicism.

But you know, I'll give it a shot.

I love getting together with friends, and trying to make each other laugh, telling our best stories. I don't get to do that nearly as often as I'd like. I like wit. Humor in all it's forms, except scatological- and those stupid dirty jokes that aren't really that funny, and always end in sexual humiliation or permanent injury.
Or both. On the other hand, a smart, funny dirty joke is great.

My OK Cupid personality analysis claims I'm "Highly Organized".
There's some truth to that, but it doesn't come naturally. It's more like self- defense. Otherwise I'd probably be wandering aimlessly. Kind of like what I'm doing in this profile.

I love to learn new things. I love science, especially Physics and Astronomy, but I have no formal education in the fields.

Psychics and astrology are unimpressive.

I like to cook, but my repertoire is too limited- trying to learn new stuff.

I like a good single malt Scotch.

I like movies, live music, plays, museums, wine tastings, restaurants, festivals, stand- up comedy, etc. Sports bars are OK when they have a band. Otherwise, meh. (Although, best sports bar name ever: Lions, Tigers, & Beers.)

I like to bike. As in bicycle, not Harley. I try to keep fit, and I'm not as fit as I'd like. I've got a couple of medical issues that sometimes slow me down, but I don't stop.

I listen to NPR a lot. Driving home after a four hour gig, I often don't want to listen to music. This American Life, Radiolab, Wait Wait Don't tell me, Car Talk, and so on. Podcasts, because of the work.

I'm a mostly self-taught musician. I've been playing music professionally since I was sixteen. It's not my main source of income, but it helps. Helps my sanity, too. I'm incredibly fortunate to work with great, smart people in both my jobs.

I love tech. Gadgets are good. I don't understand the people who won't use a computer or a smart phone.

Wow, I really kind of rambled on there. Hope it's helpful.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm working a job I love, and playing music on some weekends.
I’m really good at
Creativity, imagination, and my friends think I'm funny.
It's always possible that they're wrong about the funny.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Jazz, R&B (Old School), Funk are my faves, but I can listen to anything that's well done. Country and Blues are more fun to play than to listen to for long. Serious stuff that isn't entirely self-absorbed.
I liked the movie Lincoln, the Star Trek reboot is better than it has any right to be. Comedies that aren't primarily about fraternities or personal injury.
Books: Robert Parker, Jared Diamond, Carl Sagan, and my guilty pleasure is detective novels.
I don't get to watch much current TV, I'm usually binging with "On Demand" when I find a show I like. so, not in any particular order: NCIS, Justified, Suits, Mentalist, Big Bang Theory, Vegas, Monk, Mythbusters. (Love snarky well- written sitcoms.) No "Reality TV". I'm peripherally involved in the business, and believe me, it ain't "real".
The six things I could never do without
Friends, music, books, good food (I like to cook, but I need to learn more), humor. That's only five, but...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future, oddly enough. I'm a bit of a science geek.
On a typical Friday night I am
I play music professionally some Fridays and Saturdays, sometimes Sunday, sometimes weeknights. This is a dealbreaker for a lot of people. I'm playing upscale restaurants, country clubs, and private events.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
As most people write here, if it were really private, why the hell would I disclose it here?!
