I'm not defined by my day-to-day work, though. I moved to the city foremost for personal growth and a desired type of life experience, a nice counterbalance to growing up in the Deep South. I do miss home sometimes.
In terms of other pursuits, I find myself using a broader brush with my down time as I move through life, but I do know a lot about film and specific forms of music since they're my long-term interests. I still love video games, but only dedicate time to the ones I feel have real creative value. I read a lot of non-fiction right now, currently Steven Pinker's The Better Angels of Our Nature, about the historical decline of violence. I travel when I can and have a particular love for cities with canals.
I kind of wish I was born earlier so I could have lived in NYC back when it was dirty and actually dangerous.

Movies: Le Samourai, Mystery Train, Blade Runner, Munich, The Third Man, Rebecca, Once Upon a Time in the West, American Psycho, Rear Window, Boogie Nights, and everyone's shared seminal '80s childhood favorites
Music: Listing bands is tedious, so let's go with obscure subgenres: Protopunk. Post-punk revival. Post-postmodern-pre-punk-re-revivalcore.
I also enjoy the really good hip-hop that came out between 1988 and 1995, Delta blues and some jazz. My favorite album from this year is Wondrous Bughouse by Youth Lagoon and I'm digging the new Deerhunter.
Food: Deep-fried fatty thing, coffee.
