My Self-Summary

since i see no logical way to organize this word salad, on with it..

i'm a card carrying liberal, i like maddow, olbermann, stewart, etc. i try to keep up with current events, which usually involves reading most of the posts on metafilter.com. i dont really cook too often, but i like learning about the science behind it (sort of fascinated with molecular gastronomy, thank you top chef). i had a lot of food allergies as a kid, so the idea of trying new things has only come around in the past 5 years or so, but i love it. i need work on articulating things, preferences, feelings. cant have a refined palate without an extensive vocabulary. (ps, i'm not as pretentious as this makes me sound)

if i had to pick one personality aspect that always piques my interest i'd say intelligence. this presents a problem you see, because the transmitter on my iq-radar must have fallen in the toilet [more on this below].

What I’m doing with my life

stand back, i'm going to try science! i'm a grad student in pharmacology, but i kinda wish i had gone with physics instead so i could have friends like the characters in the big bang theory (cbs sitcom).

i have skipped a lot of questions i've come across on here b/c i dont like the polarity of the yes/no answers. rarely are things that simple. in the same vein, i dont really tend to have opinions on either extreme of the spectrum (aside from human rights issues & role of religion in govt) because i try to see the merit of both sides of an argument. i'm always impressed by smooth-talking intelligent people (especially those arguing against logic, ie- thank you for smoking, republicans), however i am not one of those people. my brain tends to pull my attention in many directions at the same time when i try to talk. i cannot tell a succinct A to B story. i suppose if you're trying to get to know more about me thats not so bad, but i'm sure it gets annoying (i'm working on it). however, given time to think, i can construct impressive logical arguments on paper. its kind of interesting i think, simultaneous strength and weakness. yadda yadda.

I’m really good at

learning (chose the right career), fixing stuff, making to do lists, finishing what i start not. i like tennis, ping pong, quizzo. i'd probably never admit i was good at anything, i respect those who are willing to make an effort even if they suck.

The first things people usually notice about me

tall, wma. eye color? which changes (ironic, i'm colorblind) elegantly disheveled. i've heard i resemble the free credit report dot com guy, but i dont think it was meant as a compliment heh.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

i do a fair amount of reading on a daily basis for school, which severely handicaps my motivation to pick up books at home. instead of listing favorites, heres some recently completed/in progress: schopenhauer's porcupines, calamity physics, motorcycle dynamics, zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, a language older than words. i have a kind of morbid fascination with the darker side of human nature. and a healthy(?) dose of cynicism. chicken/egg?

music on this months playlist: ra ra riot, grizzly bear, pearl jam, two tongues, infadels, rilo kiley, eames era, mewithoutYou, kanye, kings of leon, the fray, mixed in with old school beastie boys, sublime, spring heeled jack, juliana theory, sunny day real estate, etc.

movies: eternal sunshine, shawshank, squid&whale, any action>plot masterpiece where my brain goes offline, esp those w/a time travel paradox.

The six things I could never do without

i like technology and gadgets, but i dont like being dependent on them. the only honest answer i can come up with is 'something to occupy my mind' but the smartest response to this i've read on here so far was 'i defer to maslow' so i'm going to parrot that answer.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

my thesis, all the things i'd like to learn more about, ways&means of improving myself and reducing stress, when the male organ became acceptable for its intrinsic comedic value, whether creativity and happiness are mutually exclusive, something i can patent to facilitate retirement at 40, why people work so hard for $ that they dont have time to spend it.

On a typical Friday night I am

under the influence? or stars, sheets, spell of zombie nazi's, OR at my buddies' pool hall.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

i watch and love HIMYM. rating people in quickmatch makes me feel like a terrible human being. but i appreciate the anonymous tip-off. being empathetic to the meat-market experience of female friends on OKC i will say i am reluctant to initiate any contact. and i need to work on my stranger-filter. also, i think i've read every blog post on oktrends. if you sent me a message that contained red flag words i would probably reply just to F with their stats. i dont know why i feel that would be satisfying.

You should message me if

you are smart, low-key, dont wear a lot of makeup. you want to play tennis/pingpong/quizzo or have coffee or go riding (bikes or car). want to explore new places in/around the city, or share with me some of your favorites. also, you should have ideas on places/things to do, at least to start things off if you're the initiator. as a diehard seinfeld fan, "nothing" is acceptable (ie, coffee, walking, people watching/benevolent judging), but "i dont care, whatever u wanna do" is not (my line). former mathletes or debate club kids welcome. bonus points for robot club alum.
