My Self-Summary

~~ THAILAND Nov 12th - Dec 2nd :D ~~

In my 26 years of life, I've: sampled the Black Death and puffins in Iceland, sang "Dream a Little Dream of Me" while sitting on the lap of a transvestite at a Chinese restaurant in NYC, licked the Blarney Stone in Ireland, went hiking in the Grand Canyon for my birthday last year, snorkeled off the coast of Puerto Rico, avoided altitude sickness while hiking in the Rockies, zip corded through a cloud forest in Costa Rica during a thunderstorm, gave Mrs. Clause the day off during Santarchy 2007 and 2008 in Pittsburgh, went underground in Seattle, paraded around in a pink gorilla outfit for a friend's pre-wedding festivities, danced half-naked around a bonfire at a pagan festival in NY, saved horseshoe crabs off the coast of Delaware and touched dozens of lives.

In my 26 years of life, I've lived. I have loved. And I have also lost.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a travel nurse, starting a new assignment in the Pittsburgh area in early January. Happy to be close to home! :)

This past year has really been a confirmation as to how my compassion and kind heart really set me aside from other nurses. I also kid with my co-workers, "You know, the old lady only thinks it's incredibly sweet when I kiss her on the forehead or cheek because I look like I'm 18. Wait till I'm 45. Then it's just creepy." I may be a slow learner when it comes to storing and retrieving information but thank goodness that compassion, empathy and kindness aren't things you can learn from books.

I vacation when ever I get a chance and this year has included: Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, the Grand Canyon, the Rocky Mountains, Seattle (Olympic & North Cascades Nat'l Parks), Boston, Jacksonville and Orlando.

The first things people usually notice about me

I resemble Renee Zellweger and/or I look about 10 yrs younger than my chronological age.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

"One good thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain." - Bob Marley

Music: Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Toots & the Maytals, Dezarie, Staylefish, Kenna, Yo-Yo Ma, Johnny Cash, 311, Jimmy Eat World, the Tragically Hip, Kaki King, Gil Mantera's Party Dream, ABBA, Kanye West, Neil Young, Led Zepplin, Janis Joplin. I can tolerate many genres of music except gangsta rap (albeit I make an exception for Lil Jon's Real Nigga Rollcall).

Books: Latest read - Blink by Malcolm Gladwell and currently reading A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. How Can I Get Through to you? by Glen Foster. This book has reconstructed how I interact and problem solve with people. I think it should be required reading in high schools across the US. Generation Me by Jean Twenge, Ph.D. The Giver by Lois Lowry. The Graveyard Book, Anansi Boys, American Gods, Coraline, Neverwhere ... pretty much everything and anything by Neil Gaiman. The Mastery of Love, The Four Agreements, and The Voice of Knowledge ... anything by Don Miguel Ruiz.

Foods: Sushi, plantain chips, weird Japanese candies, Seattle's Best lattes, green curry, and seafood (lobster, crab, shark, scallops, shrimp, mussels, clams, eel, etc.)

Movies: Harold & Maude. Still looking for my Harold.

The six things I could never do without

Laughter. Hope. Nature. Friends. Music. Books.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Whether or not there is sufficient good in this world. My generation. The institution of marriage. My friends. How to make new ones. Whether or not I should get a dog. Where I will be moving to. Edible plants. Whether I'm a strong woman or an impulsive one ... or both.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I own a soldering gun and a compound light microscope. I also know how to play Magic. My geekiness is subtle.

You should message me if

you're the kind of guy who is willing to take a chance and seize opportunity when it presents itself. Message me if you're the kind of guy who lives life to the fullest and laughs in the face of danger. Also, if you own a Santa suit. :)
