My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Father of three, moving on with my life after recent divorce. I'm well past the hurt and drama of it all, and I'm ready to walk on. I am learning to appreciate all that life has put before me, the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, the smell of freshly fallen rain, walking along the Willamette River, and feeling the wind through in my face as I bike along the river path.

I love cool autumn weather, exploring new places. I enjoy good conversation (about politics) with friends after work over a beer or two. On the job, I'm surrounded by children, about 540 of them each week day. Conversations with them can be funny and poignant. They are often the high point of my day.

When I'm not working, I find time to be outdoors, rain or shine. I feel most comfortable in and around water. As much as I appreciate Oregon and all its natural beauty, I feel more at home in the city.

A new job brought me to Eugene from the Portland area. I like it here, but I haven't had time to see much of the Willamette Valley. I'm eager to explore the area with a new friend.

I find myself drawn to creative, artistic, (and sassy) women.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Trying to balance the demands of work and the challenges of being a father to three kids who don’t live with me.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
People tell me I'm a good listener. I'm really good at mediation, considering differing points of view.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've been told I have "kind eyes" and "nice skin" by stranger at a reading conference a few years ago.

Update: I just got braces put on, so that will likely be the first thing that people notice about me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Tsotsi, To Kill a Mockingbird (and the film too),
Movies: What’s on Netflix, suspenseful dramas, and outright silly horror movies, like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.
TV Shows: The Walking Dead, The Twilight Zone, Taxi
Listening to the music of U2, Bruce Springsteen, Nora Jones, Amos Lee, and Ray LaMontagne gets me through the night.

Food: sushi, yakisoba, barbequed ribs.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
A challenge of some kind
Good (loud) music that moves you emotionally
Sriracha
Sushi
My children (ok, maybe too obvious)
My smart phone
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to prepare our next generation for a future free of prejudice and injustice (cliche’ perhaps, but true). How to get more adults to think about this too.

On a less serious note, I spend too much time thinking about inconsequential stuff: should I use the Oxford comma, or is it unnecessary? Are tomatoes really a fruit or a vegetable?

Also thinking about what activities I have always been interested in doing but never did. Surfing comes to mind.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
...unwinding from a long week, occasionally with friends at a local pub. But on my ideal Friday night, I would be exploring the sights and sounds of Eugene, perhaps the Friday Artwalks.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I sometimes sing really loudly, and badly, while in the car, especially to songs like: "Come on, Eileen," "My Sharona," or "Love Shack."

... you enjoy trying new things, can appreciate a dry sense of humor. Love to learn, excited to share experiences.

Or, if you know a really good Chinese restaurant in Eugene!
