My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Thank you for visiting my profile. If we were meeting in real life, there would be a more natural way of getting to know each other. My nature would be revealed in volleys of our witty banter back and forth. You would ask questions, and I would answer them earnestly, and then you would determine how intelligent or thoughtful or funny I truly am. But since we are online, I have this chore of writing about myself. I don't believe in telling you what I am or am not, that I'm witty or have a sense of humor. Instead, we could talk, and you could determine that on your own.

I would say I'm on the tail end of a multi-year transition in my life. I'm looking for partner to share the rest of my life with. (Yes, I know I ended that sentence with a preposition. Would you have preferred "with whom I could share ... ?)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I’m taking in a Sunday morning at a local coffee shop. I’m seated right up next to the window that looks out on the county jail, drinking a Mexican mocha. It’s a cold November day, but the skies are clear and the sun is shining down on the bricks of the correctional facility. I notice a tree casting a shadow on the illuminated wall across the street. Over the stereo, Cat Stevens is singing, “...out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train…” dishes clatter and clank behind the counter.

I’ve taken the opportunity to explore the Oregon coast, watching the waves crash on the jagged rocks along the rugged shores. I have found myself exploring tide pools near Yachats, finding sea anenome, crabs, starfish and other creatures. A big wave crashes along the rocks, creating catches me in an unexpected shower. On a November afternoon, it’s surprisingly warm. I drive from Eugene to Heceta Head just to watch the sunset. Beautiful and awe-inspiring. I’m considering the next time I’ll visit the coast and thinking about whale watching in March.

My last Friday Artwalk was a lot of fun. Went with a couple of friends from work and got to see downtown Eugene for the first time. It was interesting to meet artists and talk to some people I wouldn’t normally run into at work or during my daily activities. Talked at length to a woman who was selling printed fabrics and handbags from women in the Himalayan Mountains, helping them earn fair wages for their craft. We struck up a conversation about how she got involved in Awaz and fair trade.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I’m a quick study, I can play a good game of Scrabble. I’m pretty handy with a wok and Chinese cleaver. I used to cook for the family regularly.

People tell me I'm a good listener. I'm really good at mediation, considering differing points of view.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've been told I have "kind eyes" and "nice skin" by stranger at a reading conference a few years ago.

Update: I just got braces put on, so that will likely be the first thing that people notice about me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

I enjoy watching movies and would love to go out to hear live music more often. I still enjoy good horror flicks, and my favorite tv show these days is The Walking Dead, but I appreciate the human element, more so than the creative ways they dispatch with zombies (although, that can be interesting too).

In my teenage years, I listened loud and powerful music, the Clash, the Who, Bruce Springsteen, and U2. While I still love rock music, I find myself listening to more folk and blues these days. Nora Jones, Amos Lee, Lucinda Williams to name a few.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I spend a lot of time in my head, turning over ideas, wondering why people behave the way they do. I'm an introvert who must tap into his extroverted skills now and then, as my job demands that I work with people, over 500 children and forty or so adults in any given day. Funny how children are easier to manage than adults. I have a habit of moving the conversation toward others when I'm asked to describe myself.
