My self-summary
November 7, 2012
***Hurray for Obama!***
(If you don't feel the same way we probably won't get along.)

I'm a good listener--I trained briefly as a psychologist--but I won't analyze you. I like talking, thinking, going to the beach, exercising, riding my bike, being outside, friendly arguments, kindness, movies, warm, intelligent women who value connection, and who appreciate language but can tolerate a run-on sentence in a good cause.

I am thoughtful, introverted, and gregarious. (Yes, introverted and gregarious.)
What I’m doing with my life
I do web development, programming, and systems work for a medical publishing company. I sometimes do a bit of consulting.

This summer I went to the Newport Jazz Festival and then Acadia National Park in Maine with a few friends. Both trips were fantastic. I also visited Cape May and Ocean City New Jersey for a few days to spend time with my family and a different group of friends. The Jersey shore is also wonderful, and very different from the Maine coast. Both are beautiful in their own ways.
I’m really good at
Writing, analyzing, listening, walking, talking. (And spelling. The username "Walker" was taken when I signed up, so I had to settle for "Walkor".)
The first things people usually notice about me
I have no idea. Let me know when we meet.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: On Being the Right Size, by J.B.S. Haldane, Hackers and Painters, by Paul Graham, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, by Susanna Clarke, The Annotated Alice, by Lewis Carroll and Martin Gardner, His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, and tons of others. I have a hard time picking favorites.

Movies: The Stunt Man, Dirty Pretty Things

Food: Pad Thai, margaritas, broccoli rabe sauteed in olive oil and garlic, oatmeal, and most other things.

Music: Last week I saw Gillian Welch and David Rawlings at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington. My first time seeing them live, and they were great! The venue was beautiful also. I also like Talking Heads, Beatles, Marcia Ball, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Beethoven, Mozart, and most classical and baroque music, Regina Spektor, Nellie McKay, Dave Brubeck, Dick Dale, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Roches, Tom Waits and many others. See a pattern? I don't.
The six things I could never do without
Friends, books, ponderings, music, oxygen, spicy food, time, the ocean. The order varies, and I know I went over the count.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What's wrong with the world. What's wrong with the program I'm writing. Food. Relationships. Animals.
On a typical Friday night I am
Having dinner with friends. Sometimes I'm making dinner for friends. (I am a competent, but not spectacular, cook.)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
wouldn't be private anymore, so I'd have to admit something else. Which also wouldn't be private anymore. A slippery slope. But I do talk about personal things in person.
You should message me if
...you're wondering what I'm like.

I like women who are curious, affectionate, intelligent, and liberal, with a sense of humor. If you tell me why you think I'm wrong about something, that can be interesting too. I'll listen, although I may not agree. Then you can do the same, and we'll get to a different place than where we started.
