My self-summary
I'm an odd mix of athletic and dork. I always love a new gadget and tend to tinker a lot, but I also try to stay active. I just ended my second year riding in the Tour de Cure for the ADA. I love to bike, hike, camp, golf, and kayak. ...And control the house via my iPhone while I'm gone. At the same time, I tend to be unique among men my age. Where most people my age like everything pre-made and delivered, I make my own flour, bread, pasta, ice cream, furniture, and boats. I prefer bicycles to cars. I like using leather notebooks and fountain pens. The list goes on and on.

I'm originally from Kansas, but came to Boston about 6 years ago after spending time in Japan and Korea for a few years. Boston has been one hell of an adjustment for me, but I'm getting there.
What I’m doing with my life
I've done a lot with my life so far. In the past I've been a pilot, a riding instructor, a chef, a teacher, an IT guy, a security consultant, a military man, and a musician. Today, I manage datacenters and engineering labs for a tech startup out of Westborough.

I've lived and lost my dream. At this point, I work so that I can enjoy my free time, which I spend cycling, hiking, camping, kayaking, skydiving, etc.
I’m really good at
I can fix your computer and your bike. I'm also a really good cook and am an expert at losing golf balls.
The first things people usually notice about me
I get a lot of comments on my eyes - they shift between green and blue. I'm also told I have a lot of energy - I blame the espresso machine at my desk.

I'm Scottish and Irish by descent - We get sunburned from watching fireworks. I often get told I'm a little red, as if people think I just haven't noticed.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: A Dog's Purpose, The Art of Racing in the Rain, The Historian, The Rule of 4, The Alchemist, all of the Harry Potter books, and any of about a hundred other books.

TV: Dr. Who and The West Wing, and Top Gear will forever be my favorites, but I will always have a love of Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Battlestar Galactica, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, the list goes on and on...

Movies: Star Trek, Rush, Top Gun, Stripes, Caddy Shack, Ghost Busters, Lost in Translation, and any of about a dozen others.

Food: Just follow www.autrefaire.com! I especially love ice cream and BBQ!
The six things I could never do without
Aside from my family and friends, there's a lot I could do without. As long as I have a project / destination / goal that I'm moving toward, I'm a happy guy!
On a typical Friday night I am
Getting a beer with friends and figuring out what to do on Saturday.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I occasionally lose feeling in one of my fingers due to a cycling injury that I got from riding 126 miles in a single day.

I once had an elk attempt to eat my hammock while I was sleeping in it down in the Smoky Mountains. There's a great video of it on YouTube.
