I am adventurous, intellectual, and compassionate.

My Self-Summary

Hi! I'm Watchwoman. I'm a college student at the University of Connecticut, double-majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology/Psychology.

I like: hiking (the walking around in the woods sort, not the crazy we-could-possibly-die-out-here sort), discussing extremely unlikely scenarios as if they could happen tomorrow, reading anything with interesting ideas, archaic language, DragonballZ (shush, you know it's awesome), figuring things out, SCIENCE, imagination, pointing out logical inconsistencies in already-ridiculous fictional works, random acts of kindness, explosions, romance (the concept, not the genre, although I enjoy Romantic literature as well), catching falling leaves (for each one you get a wish!), writing short stories (even though I'm mostly rubbish at it), and hopefully YOU!
I would put dislikes, but besides ignorance, stupidity, and intolerance, I don't think it's necessary to end on such a downer!
(Oh except maybe water. I've never liked swimming, being rained on, etc. My mother jokes that I must have drowned in a previous life.)

What I’m doing with my life

Ha, good question. My whole life, I just assumed that I would go into research or academia. I was good at it, and many of the ideas and concepts of science fascinate me. But after doing some research and taking some more classes, I've realized that I couldn't do it for the rest of my life. I'll keep abreast of advances in the field, but the degree of specialization required for a research project these days...I just couldn't work on one small project for that long, and it isn't quite my passion. Instead, I picked up an English minor and now have the plan to try to go into editing. That means that the current dream job is being an editor of a publishing house. I'm also thinking about scientific journalism, like at Discover magazine, but I don't really know just yet. I'm not too worried, though; I've got a year or two to figure it all out.

I’m really good at

Listening, Rock Band/Guitar Hero, reading/editing, memorization*, optimism, debate (when I know about the topic), SCIENCE!

*I feel the need to clarify that this is memorization of random facts, trivia, dates, etc. Nooooot so much actual practical things that matter. I am often extraordinarily absent-minded/forgetful on a daily level.

The first things people usually notice about me

Probably my height--I'm 5'11" in bare feet. It's a bit irritating for EVERYONE to comment on it, but it's worth it to be tall.
If we're talking about character, then I don't know! I could only tell if I met myself which is currently scientifically improbable!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

All the favorites in one box?! Alright then.

Books: I'll read nearly anything. My all-time favorite series is probably the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan--it has all the things that irresistably draw me into a novel, whether or not it's good (though I do think Robert Jordan is an extraordinarily talented writer, if a bit verbose at times). My favorite genre is whatever you'd classify Stephen King and Dean Koontz as--soft sci-fi/horror thrillers? I enjoy most books in at least some regard, especially those that present me with something I've never seen before.
Movies: The Matrix trilogy. Yes, I know that after the first one (heck, in parts DURING the first one) the plot was simultaneously cliche and convoluted, the acting was subpar, the writing was uninspired, and the CGI was decidedly Uncanny-Valley-ish. But...I can't help it. It's so EPIC. I love it. =)
Music: My favorite genre would probably be labeled alt rock, but I also like a lot of regular rock, electronicish stuff, pop, prog rock, and pop rock. Beyond that, it doesn't take much for me to like a song--an interesting hook or a thoughtful lyric is usually enough to get me to overlook a song's negative qualities. (I also have a weakness for some New Age music, as a result of my mother playing it constantly in the car when I was a child.)
Food: Food is delicious. Picking a favorite food is impossible! They are too good in too many different ways. Except squash and grapefruit, which are both TERRIBLE.

The six things I could never do without

Human beings are almost infinitely adaptable. Any material good I think I could "never do without" is probably not strictly necessary.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

fun words, the nature of reality/time/the universe, baking recipes, scientific impossibilities, what am I forgetting because I know I'm ALWAYS forgetting something, books, whatever song happens to be stuck in my head, video games

On a typical Friday night I am

There is no such thing as a typical Friday night! Ideally I'm off adventuring somewhere with friends, but we could just be here playing games or I could be quietly playing video games or reading.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

For a brief period when I was little, my best friend and I were both convinced that we were Andalites (from Animorphs) who were stuck in a human form.

Yes we were odd children. I like to think of it as an endearing eccentricity!

You should message me if

...you like whatever you've read here, think I'm an interesting person, or think YOU'RE someone I'd like, I guess. I'll talk to most people who aren't really sketchy (and to be honest, even if you are, I might respond if you say something interesting enough). Do keep in mind though, if you don't have something nice to say...
