My self-summary
"Reciprocity in love is the most difficult thing to find"
- Arsene Wenger.
I feel like the Moldy Peaches speak(s) for me.
Which bits to emphasis, which to downplay, which to misrepresent? A taste: I (briefly) worked for a Human Rights NGO in post-coup Honduras, I can be very particular about logical consistency, and I'm as tough as the streets of (west) Philadelphia. See how I did all three there.
What I’m doing with my life
Devising and carrying out a dissertation on coordination problems among Nurse Case Managers...
looking for ways to simultaneously transcend and befriend.
Trying to live the long-view, in politics, in health, in love.
Also, cooking big dinners with whatever comes in the CSA, and falling in love with Berkeley Bowl for providing what doesn't.
I’m really good at
Playing with fire and knives (some people call it cooking). showing up (late). Extending first principles to their absurd conclusions. Living without a B or N key. Finding deals.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
-Oryx and Crake, The Handmaid's Tale, Dead Souls, Diary, We. Birth of the Clinic. All of Paul Farmer, Pierre Bourdieu, Michel Taussig or Philippe Bourgois. Any suggestions on where to start with Spivak or Zizek?

Alfonso Cuarón (Y tu mamá también, Children of Men and The Shock Doctrine documentary adaptation) Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel, Amores Perros and 21 Grams) and Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood and The Master) are the three best writers-directors working today. Daniel Day-Lewis, Javier Bardem and Gael Garcia Bernal define the types of leading male roles I will pay to see. Helen Bonham-Carter and Frances Mcdormand are the actresses who most regularly contribute to my prefered films (women seem to be prevented from staking out durable leading role identities in Hollywood, so its understandable that these two are most often in critical supporting roles)

The soundtrack to the new David Simon show Treme has become my own. Mars Volta/At the Drive-In, Leonard Cohen, Dalek, Pavement, Cafe Tacuba, Cafe Guanacasco, Wilco, Dead Prez, Belle and Sebastian, Sigor Ros, Thelonious Monk. When I'm studying/writing, I prefer the Muslimgauze album Speaker of Turkish, which combines traditional Souk with some fuzzed out breaks and beats.

Do you know Arizmendhi Bakery? I usually head to the Emeryville spot, which is in a terrible location. Taste that collective spice.
The six things I could never do without
tailored pants. Conifers. bio-power. spatulas. maps. strong tendons.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Adaptability. How to still be able to touch my toes when I'm 80.
On a typical Friday night I am
raging against the coming of the dawn/refusing to go quietly into that good night. This may or may not involve dancing in my boxers to Prince.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I once nearly fainted...from cutting off the end of my thumb (it grew back).
