My self-summary

What I’m doing with my life
I teach sixth grade at a local independent primary school. People often look at me like I should be committed or sainted when I talk about how much I love teaching kids this age, but I really enjoy it.

I have also worked as a food columnist. Since I love to write and I love to cook, this was a perfect job for a while, but I really missed teaching.

I just moved to LA a year ago, and I'm still getting used to it. If you can tell me about any new and interesting things to do and see (and eat), all suggestions gratefully accepted.
I’m really good at
Tying a cherry stem in a knot with my tongue (a trick I taught myself to amuse my kids when they were young, believe it or not)
The first things people usually notice about me
My smile. My rack. The fact that I stealing their wallet (I'm not a very good pickpocket, unfortunately ;).
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Authors- Alice Hoffman, John Irving, Colleen McCullough, JD Salinger, Christopher Golden, Stephen King, Kurt Vonnegut, Anita Shreve, Jennifer Weiner (I like chick lit and horror. Sue me)

Movies- My favorite weird genres are improbable romance (those that contain an element of magic and/or unlikelihood) and religious horror (especially fun, bad religious horror like The Seventh Sign). I love movies overall. Some longtime favs include Dirty Dancing, The Princess Bride, The Graduate, Young Frankenstein, The Final Destination franchise (except that last one; that one blew), The Faculty, Footloose, The Big Chill...really, anything with Kevin Kline, Up, How to Train Your Dragon, When Harry Met Sally, Grosse Pointe Blank, Point Break, Love Actually, Zombieland, 500 Days of Summer, Easy A, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Red, Scott Pilgrim vs the World, Shaun of the Dead, and Sharknado. I just saw Chef, and it is EASILY one of the best movies I’ve ever seen!

Music- Jack White, Ben Folds, James Taylor, John Mayer, Bree Sharp, Fountains of Wayne, Amanda Marshall, Sting, The Police, Barenaked Ladies, Daughtry, Rick Springfield and yes, the occasional Barry Manilow. Don't judge me. ;-)

TV: Current - The Big Bang Theory, the new Hawaii 5-0 ), GLEE, Top Chef, almost anything on Food Network that doesn't involve Sandra Lee (gag) or Paula Deen and her demon spawn, The Walking Dead, Phineas and Ferb, Girls, Newsroom, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, American Horror Story, Once Upon a Time, The Following, Sons of Anarchy, Hello Ladies.

Past- The Wonder Years, Life Goes On, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Flight of the Conchords, Wonderfalls, Daria, Freaks and Geeks, Chuck, Entourage, Terriers, Fringe, The New Normal, Go On, The Office, How I Met Your Mother.

Food- I'll try anything once. I love that food is a culture's offering to the world and a way to bring people closer together. My favorite food in the whole world is hash browns. If you think these are chunks of potatoes rather than shredded, go away; we have nothing in common. ;)

I love to cook, I love to eat out, I love to be cooked *for* (though you should anticipate that I will want to help... and I'll even do the dishes!)
The six things I could never do without
Iced coffee in the morning.
Music to sing to in the shower.
Thick-cut, applewood smoked bacon.
The internet.
My super comfy bed.
My car, Tobias (it's bright blue. Points if you get the reference)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Cooking, writing, my kids, my friends... that order changes by the minute, but I do tend to dwell on what I can do to make the lives of the people I love better.

Being a teacher is more than just a job to me, so I spend a LOT of time thinking about my students and what I will be sharing with them in school. That said, I am good about putting my work aside and paying attention to whomever I'm with.

Whether guys who send messages like "Can I cum on you?" or "Want to fuck?" REALLY think they are going to get a response in the affirmative.
On a typical Friday night I am
Making fun of the myriad people who put "There is no typical Friday night" as their answer to this question ;-)
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Casual sex, for me, is not just fucking some rando.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 32–55
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, casual sex
You should message me if
You can put together a decent sentence in English, like a girl who's a little curvy (and I do mean curvy, not grossly obese), aren't looking for something too casual (a one-time hookup) or too serious (settling down), don't think TV is the devil, like smart chicks, aren't deathly allergic to cats and fall within my prescribed age range. Most of all, please be intelligent, honest, affectionate, and confident.

You should *not* message me if you don't have a picture in which your face is visible, if you are outside of my stated age range, or if we match really low. I won't respond.
