I'm a writer—which makes me used to spending a lot of time alone, working independently. So when I'm with people—the more the merrier—I like to listen to them, and find out about them. Because frankly, it's boring living inside your own head.

Living it, of course. I've been earning a living as a writer since I finished college. I'm currently writing about finance and macro-economics. Also doing some consulting for hedge funds and i-banks.

I'm going to be moving soon—it's fun to change scenes every few years, which is what I've been doing all my life.

I'm really good at blowing things off, wasting time, and watching TV.

I really suck at skiing, snowboarding and squash—which are of course the things which I most love to do.

The first thing people usually notice about me is . . . No idea.

My tastes change over time. Stuff I liked before I no longer like, and conversely.

Current likes:

TV: "Community" "30 Rock" "Better Off Ted" (which got cancelled, but was so good)

Music: Broken Bells, Rilo Kiley.

Books: "The Lost Books of the Odyssey" "Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned" "Joe Gould's Secret", and just started Solzhenitsyn's "November 1916"

Movies: Current movies suck. "Inception" was the last truly original piece in quite a while. But interestingly, it diminishes the more times you see it—which is the antithesis of great art.

Air, water, food, shelter, clothes, books—there we go: Six items I can't live without. Everything else is extra—and therefore superfluous.

Remember: The things you own wind up owning you.

I used to think that thinking (and overthinking) was the mark of intelligence. Now? Knowing when to stop thinking is what matters most.

Too much thinking gets in the way of living.

Sometimes staying home reading, sometimes partying like an animal, sometimes a quiet dinner party with friends—it depends.

I'll admit to anything—you just have to ask me.
