I am sarcastic, literary, and geektastic.

My Self-Summary

Hey there! My name is Madeline, and I'm a 20 year old Missoula native. I like watching tv, meeting people, drinking coffee, reading (mostly YA lit), and puttering around on the internet. My favorite shows are Supernatural, How I Met Your Mother, Merlin, Doctor Who, Glee, Bones, and Buffy, but there are many, many others. I like going for urban hikes, I love hanging out downtown and getting coffee or tea and people watching. I'm a procrastinator of the first degree.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm a Junior at the University of Montana, majoring in literature and creative writing. I work full time as well, so I don't have much spare time, but what I do have is usually taken up by attempting to write my first novel- a young adult fantasy novel which has no vampires in it whatsoever. That makes me sound much more impressive than I actually am- mostly my writing involves a lot of me checking my email every three seconds, in between making character maps and plot charts. I hope to move to Wales on a student exchange in the next year, although lately I've been thinking about just powering through school and traveling in my year(s) off. After I graduate I hope to take a few years off to travel and live new places before heading back to graduate school- hopefully someday I'll be a professor of Queer Theory, Shakespeare and Children's Lit.

I’m really good at

Literary criticism, conversation, hiking, writing, helping kids find a good book, helping make people comfortable in social situations. Once they're comfortable, I'm good at making them uncomfortable again.

The first things people usually notice about me

My hair, especially if it's in the fauxhawk; my outgoing nature, my sarcasm, my quirkiness, my willingness to try anything once, my smile, my amazing ability to put my foot in my mouth

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books/Authors I could never live without: Harry Potter, Tamora Pierce, Neil Gaimen, Good Omens, Hamlet. If I started listing all the books I like, I'd be here for days- I work in a bookstore, and my entire house is lined with piles of books. Seriously, piles. I prefer YA literature because I feel like those authors have to work harder to keep their audiences attention- they know kids are easily bored, and have less reservations about abandoning a book, so YA lit often has better characterization than adult literature. Also, as a rule, it's less pretentious, which is always a plus.
I'm fairly eclectic in my food and music tastes- I'll try anything once, and most things at least twice.
As with books, most of my favorite movies are children's movies, and also really terrible teen romantic comedies. I love going out to the movies, though, so while I don't own many myself I'll go see almost anything, as long as there are no body parts flying at the camera. I'm not so good with the gore.

The six things I could never do without

My friends, Supernatural, my laptop, my books, my tv shows, and my coffee

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Myself, the future, and my place in it, what I want to write, what I want to read; my family and friends, what I want my next tattoo to be, what to do instead of my homework, what I think of religion, why it's so awkward to contact people on this site even though that's what we're all here for, stupid things I've said today, stupid things I said nine years ago, life, death, how much Eric Kripke is a god, books I've read, how to help bring awareness to issues that are important to me, why I can't learn latin, why I can't parallel park, why I thought buying ice cream was a good idea when it's like 40 degrees in my house...

On a typical Friday night I am

At home, relaxing with my roommates. Or, on occasion, out on the town.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm a slash fan
