My self-summary
I wish I could change my profile name. I typed it in on a whim a few years ago when I was just planning to do quizzes and such. But I'm stuck with it now.

To the crux of the matter; I suppose I'm here because I'd like to meet someone. I'm ultimately looking for something long term, but don't feel the need to rush heedlessly into anything. I'd like to get to know you first. Which seems like a good idea, I'd think =)

So, about me? I'm a 35 year old guy with a fairly wide geek streak. I'm moderately outgoing, like meeting people and making friends. I like playing board games (q.v. Citadels, Settlers of Catan, Dominion, Zombicide, etc.. none of that Parker Brothers Monopoly crap). I don't drink a ton, but i do really enjoy trying out new and exciting craft beers. I'd say I'm fairly quick witted (with my friends it's kind of a prerequisite.. the jokes and puns tend to fly fast and furious, even if we do tend towards the lowbrow) and irreverent, but I can be serious if I need to be.

At the same time I'm not a total nerd.. I like Hockey (Go Canucks!) although I'm not religious about it. I'm trying to get into Soccer (Futbol?), and while I'm not super outdoorsy I try to go "real" camping at least once a year. I like bike rides on a sunny day, and because I live a block from a local lake I try to go swimming as often as possible when the weather is nice. I just bought one of those stand up paddle boards last summer, and that's been a lot of fun. Can't wait for actual spring to get here.

Sometimes it can take me a little while to warm up to people, but I'm not standoffish by any means. A little shy maybe? I can hold my own in social gatherings though, and enjoy being around people. Don't worry about it; I don't!
What I’m doing with my life
I'm currently fulfilling my boyhood dream of living alone with an insane cat in a two bedroom basement suite. Heh, kidding.. although my cat really is crazy =) The next place I move into I'm hoping to be paying a mortgage instead of just renting.

I work for a local plastics manufacturing company.. I've been there awhile and am working my way up the ladder. Currently I'm heading up a project to set up an online store. Have my own office and everything. Sure beats retail counter sales.
I’m really good at
Finding lost things? No seriously.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't know. I've got a nice smile and good hair? It's curly and was bleached blonde but that's mostly grown out. It was quite long for the last 15 years, but I decided to cut it off this past summer.

*I'd* say I'm boyishly handsome, generally with a hint of a smile and a sparkle in my eye. I have no idea if that's what other people would say about me though. This is kind of making me self conscious.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
(Books): Wow. Where do I even start? I'll just list of a bunch of authors I like at random; GRRM (duh), Patrick Rothfuss, Neil Gaiman, China Mieville, Ryū Murakami, Kenzaburō Ōe, Poppy Z. Brite, Guy Gavriel Kay, Tad Williams, Doris Egan, Michael Moorcock, Bill Burroughs, Phillip K Dick, Raymond Feist, Robert Asprin, Douglas Adams, Neal Stephenson, and Patricia Morrison. But by far my favorite author is Cordwainer Smith. As you can see it's mostly fiction with a god chunk being sci-fi/fantasy. I do read plenty of serious books too, but I think the above list is a pretty good cross section of what you'd find on my bookshelf.

(Movies): This needs to be updated...

(Music): Music is pretty important to me and I go to a fair amount of shows. A good chunk of it is metal (I tend more towards classic "heavy metal" and newer melodic genres like "folk metal" .. flute and bagpipe solos rule! Never really been big into the heaver death and black metal stuff), industrial, some punk (mostly classic stuff, and folk punk). I do like some hiphop and rap, mostly the "highbrow underground" stuff like Lovage, Handsome Boy Modelling School, Deltron 3030, Kool Keith, and Kid Koala. I used to be really into Drum& Bass (Dieselboy), and while I don't really like much Dubstep I'm actually okay with the more downtempo stuff (I've heard it called Chillstep) like Blackmill. And plenty of 60's (Cream), 80's (Talking Heads), and oldschool Jazz & blues. Also, this summer I'm heading over to Germany (by way of Amsterdam) with some friends to the Wacken Festival; the world's largest open air metal festival. It's gonna be epic.

(Food): Anything and everything. I am so NOT fussy when it comes to being adventurous with food. Bring it on! And while I do love my meat (mmmm pulled pork), I've been trying to easy off it a bit for the last few months by only having it on the weekend. I call it "weekday vegetarianism" and while it's more of a guideline than a lifestyle, it seems to be working out well for me.
The six things I could never do without
My friends, my cat, my music collection, a profusion of good local restaurants, americanos, and a good book.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Things. And Stuff. I think I like Stuff more than I like Things. Does that make any sense?
On a typical Friday night I am
I used to have a steady Friday Night poker game, but most of the crew has moved up-island recently so I don't really have "typical" friday night plans anymore. I'd probably be happiest having a couple mugs of stout ale while playing some sort of game (gambling, board, strategy, computer or video) with my friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't know. I'll think about this. Gotta keep a little mystery.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 27–38
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
you'd be interested in having a mug of tea or craft brewed chocolate porter with a nice guy who isn't a total idiot? We can laugh about how awkward online dating is.

Ask me anything.
