My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
*** Let's get this common question out of the way: "Why are you forty-something and looking to date early-to-mid-thirty-somethings?" Simple. I'm strongly open to the possibility of having more children - and recognize that after some dating and deciding that's something we really want to do, a woman "my age" likely won't be ready for kids. I'm confident and energetic, and accustomed to dating women younger than me. I don't disappoint. ***

I know how to treat a lady. I'm a smart (I think?), funny, and attractive guy. I smell good, write well, work hard, am fiercely loyal, run, bike, sleep, eat, breathe, etc. I love to travel (as often as I can). I'm self-sufficient (cook well, keep clean, etc.) but prefer to share. I have 51% custody of my beautiful mixed ten year old daughter. I'm aware of my place in the universe and am humble, but I don't sell myself short. :)

I'm well educated (U Pittsburgh & CMU -- but dropped out when they interfered with career). I'm better read than many, but I know when to keep my mouth shut so that I can learn something or to allow someone to have a moment, and am open minded enough to not feel like I have all the answers... nobody does.

I'm a naturalized US citizen, and I challenge you to guess where I was born. :-)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Paying the Bills - I'm the VP of Development / CTO for a successful Center City Philadelphia company. I also am a partner in a management consulting / recruiting / training company. I separately write apps for iPhone and Android - for myself and others. I am also a landlord - I own (and live in) a mixed-use space in Rittenhouse Square.

Keeping Life Interesting - To stay healthy and for fun, I do distance running, distance cycling, yoga, and practice meditation. I like to cook. I love to travel, and have done a lot of it, both for work and for fun. I've been to every continent except Australia and Antarctica. I have family in Europe, the US, and Africa.

What Do I Want to Accomplish? - I truly want to change the world for the better. I have accomplished a lot toward that goal, but still have many big ideas, and am working toward them more earnestly. In the shorter term, I have a building to finish rehabbing, paid projects that will be done soon, friends whose businesses and/or non-profits I'm helping to launch, and my tiny family to tend to and help grow.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm a good problem solver -- both in my personal life and at work. If I had a mob nickname, it would be "The Expeditor." When people I know need a problem solved, they think of me first.

I'm also really good at NOT telling lies. Nobody ever believes me (sad commentary on human nature) but I never lie. I was always a very honest person, but some years ago I read Sam Harris' "Lying," and I haven't looked back. I now simply don't do it. I allow myself the exception of saying whatever I need to in order to save myself or others from an irrational person (hasn't happened often, but I leave the possibility open), but that's it. No "sin of omission" anymore, no "stretching the truth," no "I'll be there in five minutes" when I know it'll be eight. If there's something I'd rather not say, I simply say "I'd rather not talk about it." It's amazingly liberating. I wish everyone would try it out.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have well developed social skills - witty conversation, fun to flirt with, and an ability to put folks at ease.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Reading - Besides loads of specialty news sites and blogs, these days I read mainly non-fiction. Been re-reading some of Sam Harris' shorter works / essays lately ("Lying," "Free Will," "Letter to a Christian Nation"), "The 4-Hour Work Week," "The Magic of Reality," "Linchpin," "59 Seconds," "The Four Agreements," and a bunch of history ("Sex in History," "Guns, Germs, and Steel" and the like), evolutionary biology (and evolutionary psychology), cognitive development, etc. Fiction that I've enjoyed runs the gamut from classic sci-fi (Asimov, Verne, Vonnegut, Heinlein, etc.) to Palahniuk, Murakami, to deeper "fiction that will change your life" like Daniel Quinn and Richard Bach. Yes, I've read all the Harry Potter books (including "Quidditch Through the Ages," and "Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them" which I acquired through a Comic Relief fundraiser in London), "The Hobbit," "TLOTR," etc. I'm also a sucker for anthologies of shorts... I love having something like that with me when I travel.

TV / Movies - I seldom watch TV, but when I do think Discovery Networks, Penn & Teller's Bullshit, Family Guy. I binge-watched Breaking Bad & Game of Thrones, and I would do it again. ;) A friend made me watch Scandal, and I'm so glad they did. I love movies and am as happy with classic cinema or a little indie as I am with a blockbuster. I dig horror movies -- but have been known to laugh inappropriately or say "that's AWESOME!" when the gags are just too over the top. "The Man Who Fell to Earth" made me cry - my brain chemistry might have been altered at the time. ;)

Music - I'll listen to almost every kind of music there is -- in one day I'll do "top hits", electronica, mariachi, Indian classical, western classical, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, even (admittedly less often) some country.

Food - I like to cook, and to eat out (most any cuisine, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Eastern European, Middle Eastern, Indian, Mediterranean, Ethiopian, Western European, Latin American, Mexican, Molecular Gastronomy, good old "American Comfort Food."
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My daughter.
Having love in my life.
Beauty in all its forms.
My sense of humor.
Furry things.
A tall ship and a star to steer her by.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Rum (Well, not really -- but ask me about it ;-) )

Which song shall I sing next?

On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Party time or chill time. ...sometimes both, depending on who calls.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Without lists and calendaring I'd be an organizational train-wreck.
