My self-summary
I'm a good friend, good company and do some good for other people. I often found it easier to make friends than date. I've been involved in many community groups, mostly around HIV/AIDS services and fundraising, but also some politics and arts activities. I know lots of great people, but I'd like to spend time soon with just one great guy.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm serving on two non-profit boards, going to yoga class about five times a week, paying my bills and keeping up with friends spread across several time zones. I work as a freelance writer/editor (also a ghost writer), and wonder if it's time for something new. I love an uphill battle sometimes, so I'm starting work on another "fixer upper."
I’m really good at
If there was a merit badge in phone use, I'd be the mascot! I'm good at cheering people up, making up funny nonsense and copy (freelance writer tricks o' the trade), and I like to think I tell stories well. I try to keep the dying art of conversation alive. I'm a good baker, since sugar is my biggest indulgence. I'm also a whiz at stain removal, since I've been clumsy and too stubborn to give up when I've made messes! I'm better at throwing parties for fifty than making dinner for two, so I'm actively seeking volunteers to brave or improve my cooking skills.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hopefully, that I look better in real life than my online pics (please make it so!). I sometimes make an effort to make a "statement" and then, it's all about the outfit. In daily garb, jeans and hoodie, it's more likely to be my smile (thanks to my orthodontist and several dentists!). Or, something colorful, often orange, that I'm wearing. If I'm out with friends, hopefully people notice I'm making them laugh. Ideally, more laughing with me than at me, at least aiming for that, though both ways work, right?
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm not sure how to keep this brief and readable. I've got eclectic (broad?) taste, and I'm happy to start chatting on any of these five topics. Pick one and let's go!
The six things I could never do without
1) The phone. Nothing but "in person" compares to real time vocals!
2) Chocolate. Preferably great chocolate, but any will do in a pinch.
3) A bathtub. A long soak helps me let go of stress (without pills!).
4) The "old school," spiral-bound, "Week At A Glance" calendars.
5) Sunscreen. It's kept this pale guy from turning into a crocodile.
6) Yoga classes. I find the more you do, the more it works for you.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to find more time this month. Dr. Who, where are you? A Tardis would come in very handy right now. How to do more letting go of things useless beyond sentimental value and things that no longer serve me. How do I learn to cast spells for hot guys find themselves full of romantic longing for me? And, should I keep letting my beard grow out, or start worrying I look like I just left the set of "Lincoln"?
On a typical Friday night I am
I don't have typical Friday nights. Once a month I help out at Magnet's first Friday art openings, sometimes I'm loafing at home, often I'm out of town for the weekend, and then there's "none of the above" and "open to suggestion."
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I've never had tattoos nor any piercings. Living in SF, this seems to frequently have unexpected shock value! I often like some of each on guys, but never "felt it" for myself. Feel free to show me yours!
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like guys
  • Ages 27–57
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating
You should message me if
You think we'd be compatible and you'd like to "kick the tires." Or, you'd like to see if I can make you laugh with me or at me. Or, you'd like to chastise me for not filling out the books, movies, shows, music and food section and feel that you deserve and require some answers.
