I am Nerdy, dirty, and flirty.

My Self-Summary

I'm a native Californan, but I've lived in New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Russia Peace Corps), and all over CA. After moving around a few times, I really know that I'm a Northern California boy and this is where I want to be (although New Mexico is a close second).

Right now I'm in the mood to meet some people and have some fun; if it turns into something else, great.

I'm an early riser that likes to stay up late. I enjoy the ritual of making morning coffee more than the coffee itself. I like to sip on a glass of whiskey while working on the computer. I like to ride my motorcycle out to the coast and have BBQ'd oysters. Large social events make me uncomfortable. I find that I write in short choppy sentences.

I've been practicing Aikido for almost ten years now, and I love it. I practice three or four days a week, and go to the occasional seminar when I can.

I'm a librarian at a university in the Bay Area, and I'm really enjoying my job. Yes, it does mean I like to read, but I also really like researching and organizing things (do you need your itunes library organized? let me at it).

As far as librarians go, I'm more of the techy geeky type. It's all about creating access to the information and weeding out the bad info from the good.

i'm continuously working on this section (it's the hardest one).

What I’m doing with my life

Enjoying it.

I'm starting to feel settled in my job but at the same time constantly challenged by it.

I graduated from grad school in 2004 and spent a few years find a solid position. I'm getting comfortable now, so I'm starting to think about what's next.

I’m really good at

Taking things apart (but not necessarily putting them back together). Problem solving.
Helping you to find the best information for your research needs.
taking a good photo.
Finding a good free web tool to get the job done.

The first things people usually notice about me

My hair (I'm just guessing).

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Laurie Anderson, Vic Chesnutt, The Clash, Leonard Cohen, Miles Davis, The Decemberists, Kimya Dawson, Devotchka, The Handsome Family, PJ Harvey, Kristin Hersh, Robert Johnson, Zoe Keating, Morcheeba, The Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, Noah and the Whale, The Old 97's, The Pixies, Radiohead, Jonathan Richman, The Silver Jews, Spearhead, The The, The Throwing Muses, TV on the Radio, Tom Waits, Muddy Waters, X

I'm also a big NPR nerd (This American Life, Radiolab, Morning Edition and I just discovered The Moth podcast.).

I float back and forth between fiction and nonfiction. As far as nonfiction, I really like reading histories, especially about the early days of modern physics (Bohr, Heisenberg, Pauli, Einstein, etc). Although, recently I've gotten into books about long-term thinking (past and future) and how people process information.

As far as nonfiction it's easier to name my favorite authors are Margaret Atwood, Paul Auster, Nicholson Baker, Jonathan Carroll, Haruki Murakami, Chuck Palahniuk, Tom Robbins, David Sedaris, John Steinbeck, Kurt Vonnegut, Sarah Vowell.

Alien, American Beauty, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Bad Santa, The Big Lebowski,Blade Runner, Brick, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Fall, Femme Fatale, The Fountain, The Grindhouse films, The Hours, Jaws, Kill Bill, King Kong (1933), Let the Right One In, Primer, Princess Monanoke, Pulp Fiction, Requiem for a Dream, Reservoir Dogs, Serenity, Shaun of the Dead, Solaris, Stranger than Fiction and any good documentary.

I try to avoid TV, but everyonce in a while I get sucked into a show: Doctor Who, BSG, Top Gear, South Park, Torchwood, and lately Dexter.

The six things I could never do without

Camera, Nalgene bottles, my motorcycle, good music, a good book, good fun sex

I spend a lot of time thinking about

About my cat and how weird it is that I have a little creature running around my apartment.

What road to ride on next

Most recently, long-term thinking and the concept of big history.

On a typical Friday night I am

Read for a bit, watch a movie, then finish off with some good music and a puzzle. Having a glass of wine with friends. Spending time with coworkers after work at a local pub discussing genetics, the biology of psychology, the evolution of sex, or odd academic discussion.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I fondled my last book before I cracked it open to read it.

You should message me if

If you would like to meet up at a pub or a coffee shop (not Starbucks) and play some Scrabble.

or

If you want to go for a motorcycle ride out to Tomales Bay and get some BBQ'd oysters.

or

You have a librarian fantasy that needs fulfilling.
