I'm a stand up comedian and a lot of my free time goes into that, be it writing material or going to open mics. I run/host/book a monthly comedy showcase at a coffee shop in Beechview. Also I often do hosting gigs or feature sets on shows I don't run. In June 2013 I had my first headlining 1/2 hour set, had my first booked out of state show and hit two full years of performing. There's nothing quite like getting paid to talk at people and make them laugh.
Background wise grew up in a magical far away place where biology and debate class are the same thing, the air smells of manure and 'MERICA is always right, just like in the good ol' days. Yes, Lancaster County - which you may know as Amish Country - was a weird place to grow up that I promptly left after high school. Being the generally lefty agnostic book learnin' type isn't too popular there and I find I fit in much better in the city.
Outside of writing stuff comedy wise I'm usually working on a few other projects and studied English/Creative Writing in college. I work usually 30 or so hours a week in the paint department of a hardware store because I'm a writer/comedian and that is not enough to keep me from homelessness. Before that I spent four years taking care of the developmentally disabled in a group home.
I try to find the best balance I can between being deep and philosophical while also accepting just how absurd the world is most of the time. I try to be as honest and straight forward with people as I can.
Life has been far, far from easy but I'm still trying.
Alec Baldwin - somewhere between Jack Donaghy and his role in Glengary Glenn Ross - is my spirit animal.
