My self-summary
Hi, I'm Zel! Let's make this part concise and to the point, shall we?

WHAT I DO:
--I love God and try to grow closer to Him every day.
--I love people. I like a good mix of A) big get-togethers with lots of buddies and party games, and B) small quality-time gatherings of very close friends.
--I write, both creative fiction and a feminist blog for an online newspaper (http://www.readthehorn.com/blogs/a_study_in_pink).
--I geek out over the books and movies and music I love. See the appropriate section below for many many details.
--I teach for a living at a test prep company. Teaching is more than just a job, and I'm proud to define myself as a teacher.

WHAT I LIKE IN A MATCH:
--A Christian with a deep commitment to a personal relationship with God.
--A partner in crime who wants to build a great life WITH me--not FOR me.
--Desire to take physical intimacy slowly, including saving sex for marriage. I'm all about hugs and my cuddle power is over 9,000, but I'm not interested in casual sex.
--Confidence, self-awareness, and passion: no matter WHAT you're passionate about, passion makes everyone engaging and interesting to talk to.
--Geekiness can only help!

What I’m doing with my life
If this question is asking what I do for money... I'm a teacher. I teach prep classes to help students do well on standardized tests. I have a bachelor's in English and Latin and five teaching certifications, so teaching is a natural choice.

If this question is asking what my life is all about... I'm pursuing a deep relationship with God and with friends. I spend most of my FREE time hanging out with my buddies. A little film, a little video gaming, and a lot of nerdery.
The first things people usually notice about me
My very loud voice. I bend through alleys and bounce off all the buildings.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Bible, of course. I also love the canonical classics, particularly 1890s Victorian fantasy and modern dystopian fiction. Notable titles: The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, Kissing the Witch by Emma Donoghue, Metamorphoses by Ovid, Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Time's Arrow by Martin Amis, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, We by Yevgeny Zamyatin.

Movies: Anything by Stanley Kubrick tugs at the ol' heartstrings. Notable titles: Dr. Strangelove, Stalker, District 9, The Dark Knight, Never Let Me Go (though it falls sadly short of the book), Munich, Becoming Jane, Black Swan, Fiddler on the Roof, 3:10 to Yuma, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars (NOT the prequels, and if you want to know why, watch these lengthy, well-reasoned, and unnervingly hilarious reviews http://redlettermedia.com/plinkett/star-wars/).

Shows: Sherlock. American animation has some gems, namely My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Invader ZIM, Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, and Futurama. I used to be a much bigger anime fan than I am now, but I still hold on to Monster, Baccano!, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Princess Tutu, Durarara!, and Gankutsuou (in that order). Top it off with The Mighty Boosh, The River, Deadliest Warrior, Ninja Warrior, and cooking shows out the wazoo.

Musicians: Mostly classic/hard rock and heavy metal: Metallica, Muse, The Sword, The Raconteurs, The White Stripes, Radiohead, Eagle Claw, Rage Against the Machine, Cream, The Beatles, The Black Keys, Electric Touch. However, a heavy smattering of indie and softer stuff makes an appearance: Owen Pallett, Florence + The Machine, Larkin Grimm, The Mountain Goats, and a very esoteric recommendation: Athens V. Sparta. Their sole album, "The History of the Peloponnesian War", is a musical/spoken-word interpretation of the war between Athens and Sparta as told by the Greek historian Thucydides. Delectable.

Food: Italian and American usually take the cake, as does cake. I love to cook at home, mostly carb-laden pasta that's awful for my weight but wonderful for my taste buds.
The six things I could never do without
1. Bible
2. Laptop, hopefully complete with internet
3. TV, hopefully complete with Cartoon Network
4. XBOX, hopefully complete with Guitar Hero
5. Latin dictionary, hopefully complete with grammar guide
6. Concert tickets!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why I'm a Christian with a strong moral code and yet so in love with every horrific villain I encounter in fiction. Darth Vader was my first love... because power is sexy. And I'd have Johan Liebert's heartless little babies if I wasn't so sure he was asexual. In the meantime, I'll just go marry Claire Stanfield (don't mind the name, he's actually a dude) and have HIS heartless little babies.
On a typical Friday night I am
--Playing Guitar Hero
--Prowling I Luv Video like a sullen hoodie-wearing hipster
--Downtown at a concert, because Austin is the best
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I occasionally watch Monster Jam. If you don't know what that is, then congrats, you didn't grow up white trash!
