I am contemplative, spiritual, and witty.

My Self-Summary

I'm an outgoing introvert, a homebody who is very social person, a mainstream-seeming person with very un-mainstream beliefs, and a multitude of other contradictions. I believe in questioning everything, and love to converse about better ways of doing things and ways in which the world could be a little better or a little more interesting or just a little more fun. At the very least, it should certainly have more opportunities for dancing.

(And just as a random side note, okcupid seems to think I've been a member since 2004 - apparently I filled out a one sentence profile then, but I actually just joined early September 2009)

What I’m doing with my life

Changing the world. Slowly, but surely, with many meanderings on the way. I believe we can make a difference every single day by the way we interact with people - the amount of presence and the joy we bring to the interaction. Right now I'm working in a environmental education nonprofit, and before that I ran a small re-localization nonprofit. I've tried to do the 9-5 make a living go to work go home and distract yourself with TV routine, but it made me quite miserable. And, I suspect, does the same to many others.

This sounds too serious, though, as I read it, and serious isn't generally a word people use to describe me.

I’m really good at

Starting projects. Connecting people. My friends joke that it is impossible to go anywhere in town without me running into someone I know. As an introvert, I find that pretty amusing. However, in between places I've lived, volunteered, been an activist, taken a class, or worked at, it does indeed seem I know a lot of people. I find this quite comforting.

The first things people usually notice about me

Is that I'm a pretty happy person, and that I like to laugh. A lot.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books:
Ishmael (Daniel Quinn); Candide (Voltaire); Stranger in a Strange Land (Robert Heinlein); Your Money or Your Life (Joe Dominguez, Vicki Robin); Natural Capitalism (Paul Hawken, Amory Lovins, and L. Hunter Lovins); Veronika Decides to Die (Paulo Coelho); Woman on the Edge of Time (Marge Piercy); Eat, Pray, Love (Elizabeth Gilbert); New Earth (Eckhart Tolle)

Movies: Little miss sunshine, don juan de marco, good will hunting, four weddings and a funeral... and several others I can't think of.

TV: ? Yep, I'm one of those TV-less people. I must admit, though, that I did recently make it through the Battlestar Galactica series thanks to Netflix.

Food:
Yes.
I'm most fond of various sorts of Asian food: Thai & Korean in particular. Vegetarian-focused.

The six things I could never do without

1. Laughter
2. Mangos
3. Reading
4. Dancing
5. Joy
6. Ok, I'm at a loss. I tend to believe life is what we make it, so if you are without something... time to find something else to focus on. Or just eat a mango.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

* How to better live my ideals.
* Executing random harmless practical jokes, that will make me laugh even if nobody else does. Thankfully I seem to have colleagues who share this sense of humor.
* Creating the ideal intentional community.
* Why the Thai curries I make at home don't resemble the ones I ate when I was traveling/volunteering in Thailand.
* How to re-localize and strengthen our communities.

On a typical Friday night I am

Out with friends catching up over dinner; having a bonfire; dancing; discussing the meaning of life; cooking together.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I used to be a campus safety officer in college, and enjoyed it enough that I briefly considered a career in law enforcement until I realized it involved actual danger. And potential abuse of power. Ok, so that isn't particularly private, but believe me - if you had a picture of me wearing the ugliest uniform ever of a pasty gray button up shirt and black clip on tie - THAT would be private.

You should message me if

* You are compassionate, but not innocent.
* You are happy.
* You believe growing and changing as a person is important (for me spiritual practice is the best way I've found to make this happen, but that's not true for everyone).
* You know where to find paw paws or other hard-to-find interesting foods.
