My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a nerd and think nerdiness is about the hottest quality in a partner. I'm an introvert and can be a little anxious around new people.

I love to read and to talk about books. I'm a bit of a video game nerd. I enjoy TV, both the scifi-perhaps-intellectual stuff as well as some silly reality TV stuff.

I am still sort of figuring out where I fall on the monogamous-to-polyamorous spectrum. I guess I'd basically say that I'm open-minded, and probably don't fall strictly into either category.

I enjoy kink, but I do not live the lifestyle 24/7.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have a research sort of a job working in emergency preparedness and criminal justice.

I enjoy: spending time with friends, board games, reading, video games, hanging out with my cats, lamenting my lack of motivation to clean my apartment, etc.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Autodidactism. (I may have made that word up. - EDIT - ok people, I get it, I didn't make it up, come up with something more unique to message me about.)
Listening to and being there for people.
Writing Excel VBA macros. (A blessing and a curse.)
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
You'd have to ask people!

Upon entering my apartment, people tend to comment on my plethora of penguins, and the large quantity of books.

When meeting me, I think people probably tend to notice (physically) my glasses and (personality) that I'm fairly talkative for a self-described introvert.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: I could go on all day with this list, but some highlights/recent favorites - Stroud's Bartimaeus books; Hunger Games; Maze Runner; most books with dragons; Alas, Babylon; Apollo 13 and a whole slew of space books; Into Thin Air; and generally a lot of scifi/fantasy/speculative fiction/YA lit/post-apocalyptic lit with a smattering of mostly science-oriented non-fiction.

Movies: Cube and sequels, Alien and sequels, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Empire Records. I'm also a sucker for bank robbery movies, zombie movies, and disaster movies.

TV: Outstanding favorites include: Star Trek (all incarnations), Babylon 5, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, West Wing, Firefly, Samurai Champloo, X-Files, and most reality TV competition type shows (we all get one guilty pleasure, right?)

Music: Almost anything - I'm really not picky. Recently I've been listening a lot to my "bluesy, funky, jazzy" and "Dance around like a fool" Pandora stations.

Food: I'm not too picky, but especially like: vegetarian/pescetarian (I am eating red meat again these days but still mostly opt for veggies), sushi, Indian, Thai, Burmese, French, ...

Video Games: I like video games in a number of genres, ranging from "casual" phone games to epic RPGs. I'm particularly taken by economic/cultural/nation-building simulation games (Anno 1701 and so forth), but there are so few good ones out there. Settlers II remains a perennial favorite, even if I have to run a VM to play it.

Board/Card Games: Classics like Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcasonne, and recently have been really enjoying 7 Wonders, Betrayal on the House on the Hill, Bohnanza.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Books, internetz, massages, cats, a firm mattress and pillow, and snuggles
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
public policy, educational policy, national curriculum, emergency/disaster response, criminal justice issues, behavioral economics, psychology...
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
generally chilling out at my place relaxing after the work week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I don't change my sheets nearly as often as I should.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
- You just finished a great book
- You really like board games
- You find something about my profile fascinating

While I apparently "reply selectively", if you send me a thoughtful message, I will more than likely respond to it.

And while I don't like to be negative, you should not message me if:
- You don't like cats (I have 4, they aren't going anywhere)
- You are socially conservative (fiscal conservatism is a-ok)
- Religion plays a large role in your life
- You have or want children
