The Coffee Date

I met a guy for coffee at a local coffee shop a few blocks from my apartment. There weren't to many people there (the spring semester is over at the UofA and summer means fewer students about) and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the relatively cool weather we have been having. We did the usual small talk and it was quickly clear that there was not a lot of chemistry between us, we both have very different personalities and interests, so one cup of coffee (or iced coffee in my case) was enough and we parted. I was a bit discouraged afterwords. But this is how you do it, right? I mean, that's what this is all for. If you are lucky enough to meet someone in the normal course of life, then great, good for you. But if not, then sites like Ok Cupid help you meet new people you probably wouldn't meet otherwise and meeting for a coffee or beer is a good way to break the ice.

I'm feeling better about it now, it's all part of the game, and that's the beauty of meeting for coffee, it's a casual low-pressure way to meet and just see if there is any chemistry. If not, then a cup of coffee is pretty quick and then you are outta there. If there is chemistry, you can have another cup of coffee and move on to dinner...or desert.
