My self-summary
I suppose, fundamentally, I am a bit of a geek. Being an engineer and having gone through engineering school no doubt raises your suspicions, eh? :-) Not to worry, I keep it under-wraps for most of the time. I've made my way through medical school, graduated in May 2008, and now I slave away for knowledge in residency. I've been told I have a rather dry sense of humor and that I have very expressive eyebrows. I'll take the expressive eyebrows as an innate talent :-). I like to spend most of the day laughing, either at myself or to myself. I'll readily tell science jokes and make a general fool of myself to lighten the mood. I watch cartoons, both old and new, when I get the chance. Cartoons from the 80s have a particular soft spot in my heart. GO Voltron, Robotech,He-Man!! ;-)

A neutron walks into a bar and asks, "How much for a drink?" Bartender replies, "For you, no charge."

Why didn't the skeleton cross the road? He didn't have the nerve.

nyuk nyuk nyuk *ducks thrown tomatoes*

I like to imagine that each person I meet is a color of paint (a personality). When we meet, we exchange and mix portions of paint (trading ideas, talking and activities). I like to keep those person-to-person connections alive such that we always find some way to make new colors. I believe more than whole heartedly in contact and communication between people. It sounds silly and trite, but I will resort to carrier pigeons, smoke signals or even giant mirrors to keep communication alive. I'm too stupid to maintain anything else besides a simple openness and honesty when communicating with a person. Note that I mean communication includes both verbal and non-verbal; simply making the time to see someone face to face carries its own message.

Music has always been a large part of my life. I was formally trained on the violin and in percussion, though I haven't played either for quite some time. My tastes in music have changed as a reflection of changes in my personality. I'm always looking for new types and styles of music. New instruments and new uses of old instruments I always find interesting. I've started to move toward more acid jazz, break beat, downbeat, leftfield, triphop (like Gotan Project, Squarepusher) but I can't ignore the Pixies or Weakerthans from where I came :-). Of course, the other side of the coin is the simple melodies and harmony (like the viol and composition by Marin Marais).

Examples of the quirks of my mind: pondering how a blade of grass and a tree look dissimilar when close but indistinguishable from afar, the notes "G" and "A" make me think of the colors purple and azure blue, respectively.

Sometimes my brain (apparently) mixes up senses and I say things like "that idea is so ingenious it tastes like syrupy brightness" or "that song is like a forest breathing". I dunno, seems to work for me.

I am quiet, reliable, and quirky
What I’m doing with my life
Having completed engineering school and medical school I'm now a resident physician in Internal Medicine at a large teaching hospital in Boston (acting like I know something...). I will reply to messages, I promise :-), just give me a bit...okay fine like a week. Sometimes I don't even recognize myself during the course of the day. Still feels a little strange speak the things I say and worry about the things I worry about. I try to keep drawing with colored pencils and creating digital art. I have a grand plan to teach myself how to paint with watercolors, of course, that remains to be seen.
I’m really good at
I'm really good at eating pancakes...actually, I used to be much better., I'm not that great at eating pancakes but I sure try. I'm great at dancing to 80s new-wave (or is it old-wave, being the original) in my room when no one's watching :-). I'm good at figuring out how things work. I'm good at building (I still love Legos). I'm good at listening and I've got a good track record at being a peacemaker. I was good at keeping an exercise routine and going running...despite being a terrible runner, though now in residency, time is a little tight.
The first things people usually notice about me
Actually, I'm fairly quiet when I first meet new folks until my dry humor gets a chance to come out. I've been told I talk with my hands and have very expressive eyebrows.

The six things I could never do without
  • Family- a part of me, worlds connected by threads, small, to them I am fiercely loyal
  • Friends - those to help, worlds connected in time, many there are, only 1-2 truly know the thoughts behind my eyes
  • Good food (to share with 1 & 2 of course)
  • Music - often times interchangeable with food
  • Humanism - ultimately driving the greatest goals in my life
  • A chance to learn & improve myself
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What series of dumb luck events have lead me to this spot in my life. Apparently I've convinced enough people that I'm mature enough to have grown-up responsibilities. Joke's on, maybe the joke's on me. Also, how I'm really a humanistic idealist who really does a terrible job of playing the part of the jaded cynic. After finishing 8 weeks working in the intensive care unit where I focused so much on death, disease and suffering, I find myself thinking (almost like rebound?) about life, love, friends and how to make people happy.
On a typical Friday night I am
Dunno, might be on call overnight at the hospital. Nothing typical these days.

  • I wish I could be a giraffe.
  • I have a T-shirt with the 1st law of Thermodynamics on it.
  • I watch cartoons in my scrubs.
  • Lloyd Dobler speaks for me
  • I secretly wish I could be a superhero and save/help everyone
