I am insert, something, and witty.

My Self-Summary

so i grew up overseas in saudi arabia and migrated to the u.s. for high school. i've always lived in super warm places until last winter when i moved up here. (what was i thinking?!) it pretty much kicked my butt and i'm now working up my courage to face this new york winter. i'm finding that involves a lot of self-talk like: bring it on, winter. this'll work, right? ... with the right boots and jacket of course.

What I’m doing with my life

i was recently told that i get paid to care. i'm okay with that... in other words i'm a social worker and regardless of the pay, i'd probably care anyway. i suppose that's how i know i chose the right career... outside of work, i like to do things that require a lot less emotional input... um, say, going to shows, riding bikes, governor's island (my new favorite new york summer outing), cooking, eating, drinking, laughing, you get the point... oh and i've decided when i switch careers, i'm going to make furniture.

I’m really good at

making sure my shoes are on the right feet before leaving the house

The first things people usually notice about me

...the hair. it kinda stands out and growing up it got me into a lot of trouble.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books: mr. vertigo, timbuktu, jailbird, player piano, perfume, choke, water for elephants, time traveler's wife, the brief wondrous life of oscar wao

movies: city of god, igby goes down, amelie, 25th hour, lost in translation, tokyo, pulp fiction, no country for old men, the shining, let the right one in, anything - wes anderson; david lynch

music: andrew bird, memory tapes, band of horses, bon iver, the books, lali puna, explosions in the sky, carla bruni, neutral milk hotel, girls, suckers... so much more that's escaping me

food! period. oh yeah, i'm a veggie.

The six things I could never do without

old friends (does that count as one thing??)
my toothbrush
eye candy (art, people, random scenery in random countries)
my passport
cheese
number six will have to remain open until i come up with something more important than cheese. i mean, really, what could top that?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

strangers. there's lots of people-watching to be done in this city and i love to imagine what each person's story is...

On a typical Friday night I am

quite frankly, the best thing about new york is there is no typical friday night.

You should message me if

you like to laugh, make people laugh and don't take life too seriously
