My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hey, I'm Danie! Nice to meet ya. Well, sort of. *DISCLAIMER: My political beliefs have evolved a ton since I answered the vast majority of the match questions, so some of it really doesn't quite match how I actually feel now, but I haven't gotten the chance to retake them* Let's see, basics...I identify as female/tomboy (I will refer to myself as a woman, but not a lady. If you saw my mannerisms, you'd know why. I'm pretty tomboyish), I'm half-Korean, half white (Jewish), I was raised reform Jewish but I'm more just spiritual now, strongly left-leaning/liberal politically, and I'm queer, specifically, bisexual. For me, bisexual doesn't operate on a binary. I think of it like two broader categories of people of the same gender as me, and people of different genders from me, too. But in all honesty, I prefer queer because it's not only a sexual identity but a political and almost philosophical one as well, and I feel like it aptly represents how I relate to the world. I am an overall optimist, a realist, and a dreamer. I'm a science person, but that does not mean I place logic over feelings. Quite the contrary, personally, I tend to rely on feelings in life. I'm a strong ENFP, as in the description on most sites is DEAD-ON. Most of you probably don't know what that means, but I think those MBTI tests are really cool! I'm a huge nerd, geek, and dork. I'm quirky and weird, and damn proud of it!
I'm comfortable in my skin, and I like being me, and being with people who are comfortable with that. I don't like to hold back parts of my personality because of how people might perceive me, because if people can't handle me for who I am, that just weeds out the lame people, and leaves me with the cool ones :)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm from Huntington Beach, but I'm currently a student in Claremont. I'm majoring in either Biology or Neuroscience and minoring in Gender & Women's Studies, but my concentration is pre-med. I'm getting some experience working as a research assistant in a lab doing a study on biological factors of gender identity and sexual orientation. I want to be a doctor, and while I have plenty of time to figure that out, I would have to say my dream would be to become an endocrinologist for the trans* community. In the meantime, I'm focusing on trying to find balance in my life--social life and academics, time management/organization, etc--to maximize my happiness. I feel like I know myself pretty well, and I'm comfortable and happy with who I am, but I'm still workin' out the little details--bear with me :P
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Listening and openly sharing my experiences, opinions, and feelings. Making people feel comfortable opening up to me. Learning languages, particularly, I'm very good with Spanish. I'm good at articulating ideas, whether they're mine or someone else's, I can put whatever it is into words, or supply you with that one nuanced word that's on the tip of your tongue but so enragingly escapes your mind. I'm good at actively communicating feelings in interpersonal relationships, and it's important to me. For better or for worse, I'm good at growing to love and care for people very deeply, sometimes too much, but having strong friendships is worth getting hurt sometimes.
I think apathy is the biggest plague of our generation. I think everyone, as human beings, should give a damn about something other than themselves, take a stand, and be passionate. I care tremendously about a lot in life.

Alternatively, I'm REALLY good at being a major dork, geek, nerd, weirdo--anything in that spectrum. I'm really good at embarassing myself. Well actually, I'm good at being completely comfortable with finding myself in situations in which NORMAL people would undoubtedly be embarassed. I'm good at being ADHD. REALLY good at that. Along with that, of course, comes procrastination.
I'm good at having freaky fingers. They're majorly double-jointed, people often ask if I broke them in the past.
Being Danie. Randomly talking in accents. Queersmirking. Facebook stalking. Entertaining myself easily. Telling stories. Laughing at inappropriate times. Shoving large amounts of food in my mouth at a time (this somehow is a favorite partytrick among my friends that they like to challenge me to with dares ie: I bet you can't finish that quesadilla in 4 bites). IDENTIFYING POKEMON BY THEIR CRIES. I'm particularly proud of that one. Challenge me, I dare you.
Edit: I've set a different Pokemon cry to each contact in my phone that goes off when they text me, and I can know from even across the room who texted. Best decision ever.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Well, that I'm short, I guess. Then maybe my hair, cuz it's short and asymmetrical. Then my voice, it's pretty low and has a raspy quality, and I tend to use it very loudly and very often.
Personality-wise, people tend to notice that I'm pretty extroverted and outspoken. I've also been told that the first thing people notice about me is that I'm queer...Hahaha
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books:
The Grapes of Wrath (all-time favorite), The Great Gatsby, Waiting for Godot, The Little Prince, Hamlet, The Importance of Being Earnest, Frankenstein, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, To Kill a Mockingbird, Catch-22, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Othello, The Alchemist, The Crucible, The Sun Also Rises, East of Eden, Siddhartha, The Harry Potter series, The Merlin Series, The Da Vinci Code, A Streetcar Named Desire, Anpao, The Scarlet Letter, The Giver, Fahrenheit 451
Poetry: e.e. cummings is my absolute favorite poet ever. He's brilliant the way he plays with syntax and spelling and all these conventions to give his poems deeper meanings. Just ah. So amazing. If you're not familiar with him, check him out! I also like Emerson, Poe, T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Neruda, Sylvia Plath (admittedly a very depressing lady), and sometimes traditional Japanese haikus.

Movies:
Dead Poets Society (all-time favorite. I think.), The Graduate, Charlie Bartlett, Juno, Dan in Real Life, Pay it Forward, Saving Face, Fight Club, August Rush, Donnie Darko, Mean Girls, Pink Panther (Steve Martin version!), She's the Man, The Lion King, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, Star Wars, The Godfather series, V for Vendetta, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Black Swan, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Spirited Away, Forrest Gump, The Princess Bride

Shows:
House, Criminal Minds, So You Think You Can Dance, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Big Bang Theory (currently super addicted), It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Monk, Psych, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, NCIS, Degrassi: The Next Generation, Project Runway, Top Chef, CSI, The L Word, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Burn Notice, The George Lopez Show, Heroes, Kyle XY, Ghost Whisperer, Jerseylicious (cuz it's frickin' hilarious)
Anime! I like mostly shonen-type series, but I like some shojo ones too, and sometimes when I'm in the mood for super cutesy, I'll watch BL. I occasionally watch ecchi just for the lolz. Some of my favorite anime series include: Soul Eater, Death Note, Ouran High School Host Club, Dragonball Z, Blue Exorcist, No.6, and I'm going to count Pokemon(!!!) and Digimon as well.
Korean Dramas--I'm not an addict but I definitely like them! I don't typically end up finishing a drama, though :/ But my favorites include: My Lovely Samsoon, Lie to Me, Secret Garden, Protect the Boss, Boys Over Flowers

Music:
I prefer rock, metal, alternative, and any hybrid of those genres. But I'm okay with listening to most music, at least in moderation. Sometimes I'm in the mood for top 40s stuff (though I'm really not a fan of rap), and other times I'm in the mood for flamenco guitar music or KPop. But the three I listed first are my home base, so to speak. I also play acoustic guitar, mostly just whatever I want to play, music that I like, but also flamenco.
My favorite groups include: Mago de Oz (Spanish Celtic/symphonic metal band. TOTALLY badass and their lyrics are beautiful. I kind of am desperately seeking someone who shares my love for this band, not gonna lie.), The Killers, The Beatles, Mumford and Sons, Tegan and Sara (OMG, they are both so hot. Just had to throw that out there), P!nk, Death Cab for Cutie, CNBlue, Coldplay, Panic! At the Disco, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Clazziquai, The Rolling Stones, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), Simon & Garfunkel, Dragonforce, Rata Blanca (Argentinian power metal band), Shakira, Juanes, Mana, Mika, SHINee, Cold War Kids, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Andy Grammer, Bon Jovi, The Offspring, Rise Against, SS501, Belle & Sebastian, T-Max, My Chemical Romance

Food:
I love food. I frickin' love it. I tend to eat as much as a morbidly obese man would...Trying to work on controlling that a bit, heh. I love comfort foods. My favorite cuisines are: Mexican, Italian, Korean, Japanese. More or less in order. I love junk food, but I've been trying to eat less of it lately.

I also want to list some extra favorites....
Favorite sports:
Fighting arts FOR THE WIN. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is my favorite. Then Muay Thai. I was also on the all-guys wrestling team my freshman year of highschool. I started up capoeira last semester, though it feels more like dance than a fighting art in a lot of ways. And I'm currently enrolled in Kung Fu, which I've always wanted to learn, especially ever since I watched Avatar: the Last Airbender. Btdubs, I'm probably a waterbender, but I have some similarities to earthbenders, too. I also love Muggle Quidditch. Not kidding here, we started a team up at my highschool, but we really didn't play by the rules. I also like snowboarding and scuba diving.

Favorite videogames:
POKEMON. Golden Sun (best freaking RPG series ever), Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, Super Smash Bros series, Guitar Hero, RockBand, Just Dance, Super Mario Sunshine, Harvest Moon series, Animal Crossing, The Legend of Zelda series, Final Fantasy series, Spore, Kirby games. I've always wanted to get into Kingdom Hearts, and I plan to do so when I have a bit more time. I'm loyal to Nintendo. RPGs tend to be my favorites.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Friends
2. Cuddling
3. Internet
4. Intellectual stimulation
5. Laughter
5. Passion. I care a lot about life, and I need to be surrounded by people who give a damn about life, too!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Oh man, I spend way too much time thinking about everything. I think a lot about life, my place in it, and my relationships with the people in my life. I love thinking about social justice, queer and feminist issues, and am especially fascinated by gender these days. I think a lot about the intersectionality of identities. I don't always think about such grand stuff, though. A good majority of the time, I'm thinking about some funny thing that happened yesterday or last week or even years ago and randomly bursting out laughing, or I'm musing on something dumb like how I would look terrible bald because I have such a lumpy head from bumping into stuff, or how saying "fort fort fort fort fort" makes that word start to sound preeeeetty silly after a while.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Spending time with my friends, unwinding from a long week of school. Sometimes we go to kickbacks, but in all honesty, I just like spending time with the people I love without having to necessarily go out and do something. Not that I'm opposed to that though, that can be cool too!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have only 1 eye. My left eye is prosthetic because I had retinoblastoma (cancer of the retina) when I was 22 months old (I'm fine, and no I can't see out of it). This actually isn't really private. I'm totally open about this.
Another thing that I wouldn't necessarily call private but don't actively bother explaining to everyone is that I identify as female, but not cisgender. Not exactly something everyone gets, but if you're curious, you can ask me about it.
I'm honestly a pretty open book. I'm comfortable talking about myself and a wide range of topics. One thing I'd like to say is that because I do feel so comfortable talking about more personal or racy topics like my opinions on sexual things, and I make lots of sexual jokes, people tend to think that I'm a very sexual person. In reality, I'm actually not. I'm not someone who is sexually motivated; emotions are where my focus lies in a relationship, and for me personally, sex should be a means of expressing that emotion and bonding, I'm not into sex for just sex. I don't pass judgement on anyone who feels otherwise, though, that's just me.
Random personal facts?
I had an imaginary brother named Goku (yes, after DBZ) from the time that I was 4 to 7. I would make him have countless offspring on a regular basis and drew them all the time (often times without clothes, I went through a weird phase of drawing people naked for a little while o_O)...I did not realize the implications of his overactive babymaking until much, much later...
Umm...I have really flat feet. My right foot is slightly more flat, though, to the point that if I'm walking on tile or wood barefoot, my right foot makes that awkward farting suction sound if I take a firm enough step. Attractive, I know.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You think I seem interesting, cool, attractive--whatever. Your call, really!
Definitely message me if you share quirky/specific interests with me like Pokemon, Golden Sun, Modernist lit (including but not limited to Steinbeck and Fitzgerald), e.e. cummings (he's my favorite poet ever, I get way excited whenever I find someone else who likes him), Poe, Shakespeare, Spanish language, zeugma/syllepsis, digimon, queer stuff, Mago de Oz (Celtic/symphonic metal band from Spain, I have yet to find someone who listens to them D:), stream of consciousne--wow I am really all over the place here, this all makes me sound like much more of an English nerd than I am, I have so many other interests that I can't even think of at the moment that I geek out over upon finding others who like them too--
Oh, go ahead and message me if you DID know what I meant by ENFP, and/or if you knew your MBTI type off the top of your head! I love finding people who actually are interested in that stuff!
Message me if you can talk martial arts with me! When I talk about it, most people just don't...get it. It's kinda disappointing, so if you're into martial arts, it'd be cool to chat!
Hell, message me if you like the way I talk even, I guess. I dunno, that's something that tends to pique my interest in people. You can message me if it makes you happy that I spelled "pique" correctly; I know I get mildly excited when I see that.

You should not message me if:
You're just gonna say hi or what's up or tell me you think I'm attractive with no intention of holding an engaging conversation beyond that.
You're looking for cybersex or actual sex.
You're just gonna message me to ask if I want to meet up, especially if it's based on appearance, and not cuz you read my profile and thought I was interesting.
You're a cisgender straight guy (or anyone else, at that) who believes in enforcing heteronormative gender roles.
You're a white person (or anyone else, at that) who believes that reverse racism exists.
