My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I am a transplant from the bay area. I am an academic and a gentleman. I enjoy and appreciate intellectual and aesthetic stimulation, be it be art, conversation, or the natural world. My life has purpose, and my actions are honorable, but not disinterested. I have great loyalty and compassion for my friends. I derive happiness from making those I care about happy.I have an old-fashioned sensibility, I hold open doors, am hesitant to lose my composure.

I like a sense of age and craftsmanship in all things. I like earthtones, natural fabrics, canvass, leather, brass, copper, and hardwoods. I like complex mechanisms, clockwork and otherwise. Cephalopods and bicycles, fountain pens and neurons. I own no denim and prefer wingtips to tennis shoes. I like things that grow. My apartment is festooned many plants and I've started a small vegetable garden.

I am a political creature and love to debate and discuss, but am never angry. I find it difficult to raise my voice. I am a classical liberal, or libertarian. I do not follow sports but instead fulfill that need by following current events and international relations. I read The Economist , and sometimes watch the Prime Minister's Questions. I have no filial relationship to the United Kingdom, I follow Euro-politics for sport alone.

I enjoy film, and go to the movies fairly often. My tastes are eclectic, and I go to art-house flicks and blockbusters alike. My favorite genre is the surrealist mind-bender. Comic book movies and period pieces are a guilty pleasure. I am not however partial to horror.

I enjoy music, I was a music minor in college. I listen mostly to classical or contemporary classical. I like the minimalist school as exemplified by Phillip Glass or Max Richter. I also have a subscription to the San Diego Opera. I don't know much about pop music (defined broadly) but I do not classify as any less worthy an endeavor, and am open to exploring it . I've recently discovered I like the sound of the Decembrists. I'm a sucker for the accordion and a 19th century aesthetic.

I live by myself four blocks from the beach and like to take late-night strolls in the moonlight, even in the winter. I like hiking, and though I haven't done it recently, camping.

I have a good memory and revel in trivia of a historical, political, scientific, cinematographic, or linguistic nature. I can link-hop for hours on wikipedia or tvtropes.

I like European style board games, and have participated in the odd RPG. I like puns and appreciate good oratory. I regularly attend concerts, operas, and plays.

I value my conscious experience and choose not to numb myself with alcohol, marijuana or even aspirin, though I am tolerant of their use in moderation.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a career academic, with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. I am currently working as a research associate in a Neuroimaging lab at UCSD. I plan on returning to school at some point to get my doctorate.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I have a special talent for finding obscure information on the internet. And a tendency to remember it.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I dress more formally than my station requires.
