My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I just moved back to Cambridge for school after being away from MA for about 6 years, and I'm looking to meet some new people. I'm a goofy, optimistic idealist with a healthy cynical streak who likes a 50/50 mix of partying with friends and holing up for a few days to watch movies and get some alone time. I'm also very up-front about most things, so here's the good and bad bits about me:

Good things -
-I'm unbelievably friendly and positive. I like making people laugh and feel comfortable.
-I'm smart about some things, mostly science.
-In spite of that last point, I have social skills (well, at least one or two).
-I tell good stories. Once I was telling a story, and then I found $20.
-Even if I can't drink you under the table, I'll have fun trying.
-I'm down to try most things at least once and love having adventures and new experiences.
-I exercise a lot, mostly running and biking.
-I'm a damn good cook - Italian family does that to you.

Bad things-
-After going out a lot I need plenty of time by myself or with close friends to recharge. This often includes lots of TV watching and bowl smoking in my bathrobe.
-I can be shy at first. You won't think I'm being shy because I'm still very talkative, but it can take a little while for me to feel really relaxed around people and act 100% like myself.
-I can be too polite. If you think this isn't a problem, see
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Just came back to Cambridge to start a PhD in mechanical engineering, specifically building solar cells using some pretty cool new materials. When not trying to be a scientist I'm usually chilling with friends, watching TV and otherwise being a lazy bum. It's great.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Feeling at home in new places and situations right away. Figuring out where I've seen minor actors from random TV shows without going to IMDB. Also figuring out where someone is coming from, even if I don't agree with them.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a high-functioning space case. Also that I like to joke around and laugh a lot.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Dune, Cat's Cradle, The Left Hand of Darkness, Siddhartha, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Once and Future King, Chaos, Game of Thrones, Schrodinger's Ball, Phantom Tollbooth (it never gets old!)

Movies: Darjeeling Limited, The Royal Tenenbaums... really anything by Wes Anderson, Office Space, Enter the Dragon, This is Spinal Tap, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Silence of the Lambs, and tons more. I like movies a lot.

Shows: Archer, Arrested Development, Workaholics, The League, South Park, Game of Thrones, Battlestar Galactica, Party Down, Parks and Rec, Breaking Bad, also tons more. I like TV a lot too.

Music: Armin van Buuren, Infected Mushroom, Above & Beyond, Daft Punk, Beirut, Elliot Smith, Pendulum, Moby, Nirvana, The Limousines

Food: Everything, especially meat. Kale sucks though. No offense to the kale farmers. And for the most part the spicier / more intensely flavored the better.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Computer and internet. I'll order the rest on Amazon.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
A lot of really random things. Are there intergalactic civilizations out there, what I'll be doing in 10 years, why I like the things I like, why I don't like the things I don't, and the best places to go in a zombie apocalypse. Definitely supermarkets, though I'm open to debate on this.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Drinking somewhere with friends, either in a house or at a club or bar. Or at a show, though less often than I'd like... Or hermiting up at home, making some dinner and enjoying it with a movie and a few bowls.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
When I was 5 I was watching the Lion King, and when Scar died I started crying. When my parents asked me why I was sad I chose possibly the most pretentious answer which was "If you only cry when the good guy dies you only have half a heart!"
