I am tall. Tall like the titans of our ancestors, or the myths that created the Earth, or the enormous effigy I watched set to blaze last summer in the Nevada desert. I am tall like a tale, more creative, more passionate, more intense, and more imperfect than your imagination. I am tall like a pine in a restless wind, boughs outstretched, chasing the glitter and glam of life as it passes, imparting only a whisper of beauty and meaning. I am tall like a bent giant in a tall room still too short for comfort; I am that kind of awkward: simple and straightforward enough, easy and kind, but ever with a missed beat. I am that kind of awkward that wants to share it all with you, and with everyone, this instant and indefinitely forward, without preamble or preparation, and it is hard to understand that everyone else is not the same. But I am tall like a head upon shoulders and a chin tilted high and a wry grin and one eye closed to the dribble of paint applied to my face. I am tall and I am happy and why hello, how are you?
