My self-summary
I'm a tall, broad geek girl, who has adopted a semi-gothic style of dress, all blacks and bits of silver.

I'm a rationalist and an atheist; those are not the same thing, though they are often found together. Skepticism and critical thinking are very important to me; I try very hard to live in the world that's actually there.

I'm a Newfoundlander by birth who moved to Vancouver area in April 2005; no, I don't have 'the accent', though I can perform it (and myriad others) if need be.

I love games of all flavors (including role-playing games) and intelligent conversation. I'm powerfully driven to make a mark and be recognized for it... but I haven't managed it yet. I HAVE managed to be in the news a few times for something I did - things which were considered interesting, not criminal.

I look more imposing than I really am or want to be. Truth to tell, I love to cuddle and kiss and am much happier being a lover than a fighter, though I will do whatever it takes to defend my friends, family, or principles.

In person, I'm witty and silly; writing THIS makes me a bit nervous, so I can't quite make it come across. In the words of Tom Smykowski: "I have PEOPLE SKILLS! I am good at DEALING with PEOPLE! Can't you understand that!?"
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a polymath, or at least try to be one.

A software developer by trade, my REAL interests lie in entertainment. So I am constantly working on my own side projects, with the smaller ones being little video games and board games.

The big ones can go on for years, like the Firefly fan-film project I started and had been involved in for six years. I love filmmaking and am hoping to get involved in a webseries before too long.

I'm working on getting into acting in a big way, too! At least, as big a way as I can get hold of!

I've been working on writing a novel for the last couple of years, though at my rate of progress, I might be abusing the word "working" there. Lately I've been more focused on teleplays and screenplays.
I’m really good at
Making and playing board games.
Filking! Oh, I write song parodies all the time!
Singing, in the right environments. I miss karaoke!
Inventing horrible-but-effective ways to prepare food, with such dishes as Faux Pho, Holiday Inn Salad, and Custard Sculpture.
Screenwriting, for which I long to sink my teeth into a serious project.
Fighting games, in which I kick so much ass I have to have my shoes specially cleaned afterwards.
Being a source of and sponge for trivia - I have been called Wikipedia by friends.
Listening and counseling - as an amateur.
Inducing orgasms, even in people who thought they couldn't have them. ;)

And of course programming, whee.
The first things people usually notice about me
There's a lot of me - not just physically. People remember me for the way I make them think and laugh.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
So many books, so many shows! I love fantasy, science fiction, supernatural, AND mysteries, so there's no shortage of things I love to read and watch! There is above all one thing I demand in all media, and that is cleverness.

My favorite authors include Arthur Conan Doyle, Stephen King, Terry Brooks (Magic Kingdom, not Shannara), Bill Watterson, Douglas Adams, Christopher Moore, and Robert Heinlein; their lord and master is Terry Pratchett - I extra crispy love Discworld.

I used to like Harry Potter before the last book; still like Hogwarts as a setting. Yeah yeah, I'm a Ravenclaw...

For comics/graphic novels, though, I simply cannot get enough of Neil Gaiman, and I do love American Gods. Good Omens is the leading contender for my favorite book of all time.

Movies... I love most of what Tim Burton has been involved with, and admit Quentin Tarantino makes a few guilty pleasures. I absolutely loved The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, even though it seems like M. Night Shyamalan only had two really good movies in him. Sneakers, Office Space, Stardust, and Fight Club are among my favorites of all time and stand as one-offs, as do The Shawshank Redemption, The Princess Bride, and A Beautiful Mind.

Also anime! Studio Ghibli is fantastic, I love the alien yet understandable settings in Hayao Miyazaki's movies, especially Spirited Away, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and Nausicaä. Satoshi Kon also usually tickles my enjoyment bone.

For TV, I mostly watch police procedurals: all flavors of Law and Order, Waking the Dead, and CSI until Grissom left. My very favorites are NCIS and Criminal Minds - Abby and Penelope are sort of my role models, hee - and from the opposite perspective, Breaking Bad. I also like the series Supernatural, and the occasional miniseries like Tin Man.

My grand high favorite TV show of all time is easily Firefly, so of course I also liked the movie Serenity. Joss Whedon is my master now, may all television be created in His divine image... or failing that, like Monty Python.

Music? Eclectic and random. Lots of comedy. My favorite music is bouncy and happy and dancy or disco-y usually, but I also have a soft spot for jazz and African music.

My favorite food is yes.

I'll eat anything and love variety; my specific favorite genres of food are Japanese, Vietnamese, and Newfoundlander. Sadly that latter is not usually available in Vancouver.
The six things I could never do without
1) An income
2) A city in which purchases can be made

That pretty much takes care of 3 through infinity.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I make a point of being GGG (thank you Dan Savage), because I have a few interesting and obscure kinks of my own.
