I am a bookworm, a domestic goddess, and a bit of a bar-fly.

My Self-Summary

i like punctuation (semi-colons are the hottest), alliteration, metaphors, alphabetizing things, researching things, writing notes, labelling things, categorising things, cross-referencing things, insects, horses, children, cars, cooking, eating, moving furniture around, talking to my cats, talking to strangers, drinking in the sun, watching movies, reading in bed, making an 80's pop disco on you tube and getting drunk while singing along loudly, op-shopping, buying underwear, buying perfume, buying homewares, long car rides, going to the library, going to the movies in the middle of the day when no one else is there, grocery shopping, putting the groceries away, learning about plants- especially herbs, smelling flowers, making daisy chains, walking in the moonlight, kicking up autumn leaves, swimming, and dreaming about flying...

when i grow up i want to have a hobby farm, with chickens, a horse, a great big vege and herb garden, a couple of dogs, a whole bunch of cats, a couple of kids and a great husband...

What I’m doing with my life

i am a part-time life model for various schools around the city and i'm back at uni this year to do some more on my as-yet-incomplete ba in linguistics. i also occasionally do some extras work on tv.

i spend most of my time at home; reading, watching dvds and playing online scrabble or watching my 2 cats' antics...

me and some friends made a (very) short film for nz's 48hr film competition in 2008: http://samhalstead.net/EvilBunny/backdatemovie.wmv
take a look!

I’m really good at

* finding four leaf clovers

* befriending strangers

* tidying/ organizing/ packing things. like a suitcase. a fridge. maybe a drawer

* being still (except when i have wet nail polish...)

* reading maps

* befriending animals

* cooking

* accidentally injuring myself (most recent: bad cut on finger needing 5 stitches)

THINGS I'M REALLY BAD AT:

* time management

* staying awake in cars (or buses, trains, planes, boats... you name it, i nap in it once it starts to move.)

* confrontation

* speech making

* tanning

* remembering details

The first things people usually notice about me

my smile (well, that`s what they tell me anyway...)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

books; i love reading, almost always have a few on the go at once... my favourite authors are orson scott card, the late, great kurt vonnegut, anthony bourdain, neil gaiman, jasper fforde, chuck palahniuk and tom robbins, i also really like the dexter books, the his dark materials trilogy and enjoy a bit of jeremy clarkson on occasion too...

movies; my all-time favourite movie is natural born killers- it`s so romantic! i generally like horror best, things with a bit of a twist, but do enjoy a good trashy rom com too! i really like the city of lost children, sin city, logan's run, the notebook, v for vendetta, boondock saints, the matador...

tv; pulp sport, home and away, top gear, drawn together, dexter, happy tree friends, grey's anatomy, house, popular, lost, firefly, carnivale, the mentalist, reality shows featuring pretty people making fools of themselves, and a new one that is rising up through the ranks lately is grand designs...

as for music, my favourite band is depeche mode. i mainly like rock and 80`s pop... i generally prefer compilations, and have been listening to a lot of ani di franco, leonard cohen, transvision vamp, iron maiden, and james lately... new favourite song: "anything anything" by dramarama- <3

foods; anything cooked with skill and passion,especially asian or italian... not fish though, i don`t like seafood. i love cake, asparagus, cheese, vanilla things, salami, olives, custard, chocolate and chilli, avocado, rare steak, mascarpone, blueberries...

favourite artists; bruce knox (www.fucktheweak.com) and (www.desecrationism.com)- so dark, so twisted, so beautiful... audrey kawasaki (www.audrey-kawasaki.com); james jean (www.jamesjean.com/) kit williams, who is this crazy eyed hippy who does incredibly beautiful paintings and things with wood (try www.bunnyears.net/kitwilliams/); misery (www.miseryland.co.nz) and elliot stewart (try http://www.thetattooedheart.net/article.asp?id=34&art=94); www.xombified.com by james farr... dirge is my hero! also yugop.com, www.asofterworld.com, www.samorost.net/samorost1/ and samorost2 (amazing), www.specialdefects.com/v2/ and www.postsecret.com

I spend a lot of time thinking about

how i'd design and decorate my dream house; the urban farm i wish i could have when i grow up- what animals i want, where i'd put the orchard and how much room i'd need for a horse; new tattoos; redecorating and reopening my favourite bar; what books i want to find next; how to make my gorgeous flat even better and what flowers and veges i would like to have in the garden; and falling in love, of course...

On a typical Friday night I am

you can usually find me at home, in my jammies, sometimes drinking, sometimes watching movies, often reading... i like having friends over for a few drinks (but don't always change out of jammies) and only sometimes go out these days. i'm just as likely to be out on a monday as a friday night- not working regular hours means i don't have to cram my fun into a set night...

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

i alphabetize my spices...

i sometimes laugh in my sleep...

i still sleep with my "blanky" which is called yellow. and is blue.

i have a weakness for blue`s clues... hell, i AM a blue's clue!
