I am facetious, quirky, and redoubtable.

My Self-Summary

I moved to Lexington for library school earlier this year and am still in the process of discovering the nuances of the city.

I appreciate good music and love to read, trying new foods, visiting museums (especially art museums), swimming, window shopping, people-watching, used bookstores, thrifting, improv comedy, and stargazing.

I also consider myself to be a pretty honest and loyal person in that I mean what I say, and say what I mean. I try to help people with their problems whenever possible, but find it difficult to sympathize with those who are confused about why something is still getting them down when they have done nothing to improve the situation. Life is too short.

What I’m doing with my life

Keeping up with library school, working, teaching myself how to knit, and biting off more than I can chew; but mostly I am enjoying it, and you should, too.

I’m really good at

Making lists.

Constructing delicious salads and sandwiches.

Being a Jill of many trades but master of none. Specialization is for the insects.

Laughing at inappropriate times. Also, distractions.

The first things people usually notice about me

Depends on the person and depends on what they happen to notice, I suppose.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Usually whatever I'm reading at the moment. I seem to acquire books faster than I can read them but I am constantly reading. Some of my all-time favorites include Alice in Wonderland, Lolita, 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Franny and Zooey, Nine Stories, Pride and Prejudice, Death of a Salesman, books by Milan Kundera, especially The Unbearable Lightness of Being; and all books by Charles Bukowski.

Movies: Royal Tenenbaums, Amelie, The Graduate, Life is Beautiful, Easy Rider, Band of Outsiders, Breathless. I don't watch movies very often.

Music: I enjoy the Beatles (forever and always), the Pixies, Simon and Garfunkel, the Smiths, My Bloody Valentine, Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Jeff Buckley, the Zombies, David Bowie, pretty much anything from the 60s, and all sorts of other stuff. I've been listening to lots of Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Townes Van Zandt, and Stereolab lately.

Food: Sushi, Indian, Mexican, pad thai, Greek yogurt, Kalamata olives, Triscuits, and dark chocolate are my favorites, but I'll try just about anything. I'm a lapsed vegetarian but still eat like one most days.

The six things I could never do without

Water
Knowledge, preferably in the form of books
Music
Humanity
A down pillow and blanket
A flux capacitor

I spend a lot of time thinking about

whatever I'm working on for school, traveling, what city I'll live in when I grow up, history, Caligula, Icarus' wax wings, art, seahorses, men with beards, pinball machines, water.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm completely hopeless when it comes to math. The "more mathematically inclined" award is a sham.

[Edit: OkC must have caught onto this, 'cause the award is gone now. Oh wells].
