I'm very much a geek... software and internet engineer, amateur pilot and photographer, and one time professional musician. But I'm interested in lots more than just gadgets, like philosophy and especially psychology, and of course music.

Just starting out with a new job in Sydney.

Starting out in a new job, going to IETF meetings and making the internet better.

Making things right after a long time in a startup company that messed with my life in a big way. Especially, losing the weight that I put on when I'm stressed.

Volunteering for the Canterbury Coastguard Air Patrol, formerly as an observer and navigator (I'm not qualified to actually fly planes on search and rescue missions), and now as a strategist for the unit (seeing as I'm on the wrong side of the Tasman to participate directly).

Making interesting conversation about nearly anything (obscure sports excepted... no, maybe that's mainstream sports excepted).

And of course all the engineering stuff that I do for a living... I'm up to computer language number 17 that I've written real production code in, there's code of mine in the Linux kernel and text of mine in three standards-track internet RFCs. That kind of makes me an übergeek.

Easy, my hair. And then that I'm pretty on to it.

Books: science fiction, especially Charlie Stross of late.
Music: anything at all, from Bach to Edenbridge, Delain and Dream Theater by way of Miles Davis... but it's got to be very well performed, quality stuff. If I look at my iTunes play counts: Edenbridge, Delain, Dream Theater, Epica, Porcupine Tree, and J.S. Bach (spot the anomaly there... but then, Bach gets to #1 if you add times I play things *myself*)
Movies: Well, I watch enough of them, but no real favourites.

Influence on my environment (I'm no control freak, but something has to happen if I want to change things), musical instruments, the Net, coffee

Yes, I do. Everything. Literally, I did astronomy and cosmology at university and still follow the field.
