My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I was inspired to get into music after hearing The Beatles when I was four, and I've been working on that ever since. I watch a lot of movies, follow news and politics, and I love having a conversation about almost anything. I'll seize any chance I get to be outdoors, and optimally, traveling. Most frequently that's on my bike to and from work.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work at a wine shop. I teach, write, and perform music (on guitar, often in theater), and am always looking for new artistic outlets. I also play in a hip hop group and am one of the lead administrators for a relatively new but rapidly expanding after-school music program in Washington Heights.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Remembering all manner of information. I have an encyclopedic knowledge for facts, songs, and memories; however, I'm fairly mediocre at quizzo and crosswords, perhaps because I don't do them enough.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My (curly) blonde hair.
The long fingernails on my right hand (to play classical guitar.)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

While I love reading newspapers and magazines I just started reading books on a more regular basis again after taking a hiatus during most of my six years in academia.

I spend much more time thinking about and listening to music. After hearing countless students tell me they like "everything" when that clearly is not the case, I've taken to thinking that's a terrible answer; however, it's not far off from how I feel. I like most Western popular music of the past 400 years or so, from Bach to Bill Monroe and Duke Ellington to Dr. Dre. I'm usually challenging myself to check out and internalize music I didn't know before, but The Beatles and Stevie Wonder will always be tops for me.

My taste for tv/movies is similarly broad. I can get into any genre as long as there are some interesting characters to follow. For the sake of naming a few favorites, I love Adaptation, The Wire, North By Northwest, Love And Death, Hoop Dreams, Singin' In The Rain, and Pan's Labyrinth.

Given that I work with wine, food is also a big part of my life, and I love to cook. While I don't love everything there is to taste, I'm generally curious to try anything once. Usually at a restaurant I'll order the dish I've never had before.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
...why things are the way the are, what I can learn from other people, and what I can share with them in return.

More specifically, I read and think a lot about urban issues, geography, my hometown of Philadelphia and its sports teams, the next meal I'm going to cook and the wine I'll drink with it (or vice versa), and how our society can improve in ways big and small.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Getting off work late and trying to find a place to hang with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
If I knew what I was trying to hide, I guess I'd post something slightly less embarrassing here, but I can't think of what that is so... feel free to ask if there's something you're curious about.
