Or to expand on the brevity of that statement I am studying Psychoanalytic Film Theory at UVM. So basically a lot of reading Slavoj Žižek. If that all goes according to plan someone at UVM should hand me a MA in English Literature May 2015. From there I think I will either go onto a PHD in Film Studies or possibly something to do with psychotherapy. We shall see, there is also a good possibility that I will wind up doing something completely different.
This will actually be my second Masters degree. I also have a Master's of Library and Information Science from Simmons College. I have no idea if I will ever use that and am not sure why I got it, except that I wanted to be a librarian when I was a child. I would suggest not making career decisions based off what you wanted to do as a child.
I suppose a good description of my life is I still have no idea what I want to do with it. Most people I know who have that issue are working as waiters or orderlies, me I prefer to just keep getting degrees until I figure something out.
I spent a few months at King's College, University of London last fall. They have a MA program in Early Modern English Literature with the British Library which sounded really good on paper. In reality it was just not at the academic level I was looking for.
It was a good excuse to spend three months in England though. I have wanted to go there since I was a child and I took advantage of that as much as I could. I would often set off from my flat in the morning hop a train to whatever city/town had a reasonable rate there that morning. Then I would go to the local town center find the tourist guide, see as much as I could that day and either head back to London for the evening or find a bed in a hostel and keep traveling.
Those three months where probably my favorite of my life. If anyone wants to go backpack across the UK sometime with me let me know.
There is a really great pub in Bath that has cheap beds in the back of it.
I also teach. Do not tell my students this but I mainly have no idea what I'm doing. For some reason UVM liked my academic history and gave me a financial reward to teach their Freshman composition. I have little understanding of composition or teaching, but I am beginning to love it.
I am from CT recently.
I first entered College at 15, I'm 24 (soon 25) now and in that time I have studied at 6 different Universities/Colleges.
I am growing a beard and should really update my profile picture accordingly.
But no, I won't say that. Truthfully I am probably either having a little bit too much to drink but also a great conversation with friends, or catching up on work, or just watching a movie.
