I am creative, quiet, and curious.

My Self-Summary

I'm a naturally quiet and usually introverted sort of person. I like libraries and museums and bushwalking and movies. I enjoy socializing on occasion--even going out to the clubs to dance and have a drink--but I generally prefer one-on-one conversation.

What I’m doing with my life

Running a small business, in a retail/small-scale manufacture field. I've been doing that for about a year now and it seems to be going well, although it does take up a lot of my time. Trying to get to the point where I can upgrade the machines and consistently employ people to run them.

I’m really good at

Anything computer-related, and most mechanical things. I like making things, figuring out how stuff works.

The first things people usually notice about me

They seem to think "there's someone who won't mind listening to me talk." Often that's true. ;)

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

(a) Perdido St Station, by China Mieville. The Stand, by Stephen King. Life of Pi, by Yann Martel. Anything by Ben Elton or Terry Pratchett or Greg Egan or Charles Stross. Kiln People, by David Brin. I read lots of books and have dozens of favourite authors.

(b) I've also watched a lot of movies. I tend to like comedies and action movies most, but I appreciate SF, horror and the occasional drama too. Some of my favourites include Death Proof, Dodgeball, Little Miss Sunshine, and Dark City.

(c) I have eclectic tastes in music and am willing to listen to (or go to watch live) almost anything.

(d) I also have wide tastes in food, though I'm not much of a cook. Eating out is more a social thing for me than about the food. Left to my own devices I'll eat a lot of bananas, yoghurt, salami sticks, and sandwiches - I'm an incorrigible and constant snacker.

The six things I could never do without

Friends, the internet, a car (I dislike public transport), a phone (pretty much essential to my life!), a big house close to the city, and spare time.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Stories I'd like to write someday when I have time. Improvements to my business methods, potential new product and service ideas. Games of various kinds (book, card, board etc). Ideas about things to make: furniture, signage, figurines, various artistic and functional objects.

On a typical Friday night I am

At a movie, or playing a game with friends, or sitting around chatting. Sometimes even doing something more active, like going out dancing with friends.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I once spent most of a year playing online Scrabble for several hours a day average. I kicked the habit, but kept most of the skills. :)
