My self-summary
Well let's see...I've been living in America for about thirteen years now, but I've only been living in Austin - which I love - for about three years. I have way too many interests for my own good, and this is becoming somewhat of an issue since universities usually expect students to study only one thing. Recently I've really been into various forms of creative expression - art, standup comedy, and especially writing. I would also like to travel much more than I currently do.

As 'n mens vir dertien jaar in Amerika bly affekteur dit nogal jou taal...

What I’m doing with my life
Right now I'm a student here in Austin, but as far as traditional future plans go, I have none and I kind of like it that way. I appreciate the uncertainty - it's exciting in a terrifying sort of way. I would really like to go on an adventure after graduation, so I'm heavily considering something along the lines of the Peace Corps or WWOOFing.

I’m really good at
Well that's a bit conceited, isn't it? Well, I guess I'm pretty good at learning languages, and I really like trying to pick up bits and pieces of any I come across. So far I can embarrass myself in Mandarin and say "bird" in Arabic. Exciting.
I like to think that I have a pretty good palate and love cooking. I can usually whip up something pretty good, when I'm able to get some ingredients together.

The first things people usually notice about me
Some people do pick up on my accent fairly quickly, although I can't say I hear it very much myself.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: My most recent favorite book is The Alchemist. It's one of those books that tends to come along when you need it in your life. The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran is also on that list. Also: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, The World Without Us, The Fountainhead (say what you will about Ayn Rand and politics - this is nonetheless an interesting read, and an interesting perspective), Heart of Darkness , and The Once and Future King.

Movies: Evil Dead, Persepolis, City of God, The Shining, Pan's Labyrinth, Beetlejuice, Wes Anderson's movies (I know, I'm a page right out of 'Stuff White People Like'...come to think of it, that should be in my favorite books too), Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels...so many movies. At this point I would say watching movies is one of my main hobbies, so I'm always down to watch something crazy.

Music: Black Moth Super Rainbow, Tobacco, TalkDemonic, Radiohead, Thom Yorke, Peter Bjorn and John, Manu Chao, Portishead, Pixies, DJ Shadow, Amon Tobin, Flying Lotus, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Madlib. This list is much too long, but message me and we can talk.

The six things I could never do without
- Coffee, because I have a legitimate chemical addiction to it. (Just kidding...not really.)
- My bike
- Headphones/Speakers...I suppose by extension I mean music, but that seems like a cop-out answer.
- My guitar
- Books
- Some semblance of the natural world. I love my new patio garden.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
I like to get lost in old memories. Sometimes I'll remember something I haven't thought of for ages, and I'll follow the tracks back into the cobwebby parts of my brain. I also think a lot about different perspectives on topics...that's way vague, but maybe you know what I mean. I also end up thinking a lot about whatever it is that I'm reading at the time.

On a typical Friday night I am
I don't have a particularly scheduled life, so my days are never quite "typical." However, on a free Friday I'm most likely hanging out at a friend's house or catching a movie at the Drafthouse.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Until about halfway through high school I had an intense fear of heights - as in, I would have to stand several paces away from a 2nd story window. Somehow it just vanished into Junior year though, but from time to time I still have the odd pang of vertigo.
